Turkiye Reels After US-Style Shooting in High School
Rabat – In a US-style horrific incident, a former student has attacked a high school in southeastern Turkiye with a gun.
The gunman caused injuries to at least 16 people before killing himself.
The attacker was identified as n 18-year old forer student who fired randomly inside a vocational institute in Siverek.
Ten students were injured, as well as four teachers, a canteen employee, and a police officer.
The motive of the attack remains unclear.
Such school shootings are rare in Turkey and other countries in the region.
The authorities in the country have since declared the school as safe, saying that no guards are needed to protect it following the attack and describing the situation as an “isolated incident.
Media reports suggest the attacker had previously threatened to attack the school.
A student told Anadolu Agency that the attacker suddenly entered the classroom and started firing at people.
“He fired four or five times… He did not say anything, he entered and started to shoot directly.”
