Turkey unveils first intercontinental ballistic missile at SAHA 2026 defence exhibition
ALBAWABA- Turkey has publicly presented its first intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), Yıldırımhan, during the SAHA 2026 International Defence, Aviation, and Space Industry Fair.
The system was introduced by a research and development center affiliated with the Turkish Ministry of National Defence. According to specifications released at the exhibition, the missile is designed for a range of up to 6,000 kilometers and can reach speeds between Mach 9 and Mach 25.
It is equipped with four liquid-fuel engines using nitrogen tetroxide (N₂O₄) and is capable of carrying a payload of up to three tonnes, indicating a significant warhead capacity.
Speaking at the event, Defence Minister Yaşar Güler stated that Turkey would not hesitate to deploy the system if required. Alongside the ICBM, Turkey showcased a range of advanced defence technologies, including the hypersonic Tayfun 4 missile, unmanned aerial systems, and other platforms.
A full-scale model of the Eurofighter Typhoon, bearing Turkish markings, was also displayed, reflecting Ankara’s efforts to diversify its defence partnerships beyond traditional suppliers.
The unveiling comes amid heightened regional tensions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, with statements by Israeli figures, including former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, identifying Turkey as a potential future strategic concern.
The display also aligns with recent remarks by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who has criticised the current international order as facing a crisis of legitimacy and emphasized Turkey’s pursuit of greater strategic autonomy.
The Yıldırımhan is a significant milestone in Turkey’s long-term drive toward defence self-sufficiency. The announcement at SAHA 2026 signals Turkey’s intent to expand its strategic reach as regional geopolitical dynamics continue to evolve.
