Donald Trump has said the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon has been extended by the three weeks after he took part in "historic" negotiations. The US president said the decision came after a meeting between US, Israeli and Lebanese officials in the Oval Office today, adding that the US will be working with Lebanon to "help it protect itself from Hezbollah." The negotiations, also attended by Vice-President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, went "very well," according to Trump. He said it was a "great honour" to be part of the "very historic meeting" and looks forward to hosting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun in the near future. Posting after the meeting on Truth Social Trump said: "The United States is going to work with Lebanon in order to help it protect itself from Hezbollah. The Ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon will be extended by THREE WEEKS. "I look forward in the near future to hosting the Prime Minister of Israel, Bibi Netanyahu, and the President of Lebanon, Joseph Aoun. It was a Great Honor to be a participant at this very Historic Meeting! President DONALD J. TRUMP." The talks came as Lebanon's prime minister accused Israel of war crimes after one journalist was killed and another was wounded by Israeli air strikes in southern Lebanon on Wednesday. Amal Khalil, who worked for a Lebanese newspaper, was killed while freelance photographer Zeinab Faraj was left injured. Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam said: "Targeting journalists, obstructing access to them by relief teams, and even targeting their locations again after these teams arrive constitutes described war crimes." In a statement, the IDF said it identified two vehicles that had "departed from a military structure used by Hezbollah" and approached Israeli troops in a manner that was an "immediate threat" after crossing a "forward defence line", violating a ceasefire, the statement added. At least 2,294 people have been killed in Israeli attacks in Lebanon since February 28, according to the Lebanese health ministry. The death toll includes 274 women and 177 children. According to Israeli officials, attacks by Hezbollah have killed two Israeli civilians and 15 Israeli soldiers in combat in Lebanon.
