Trump lashes out at GOP leader who handed him brutal truth on demand for 'deep throated' voting reform before midterms

In a Truth Social post on Monday morning, the President ordered Majority Leader John Thune to keep the chamber in Washington until it passes the voting reforms or better still, scrap the 60-vote threshold altogether. 'John Thune should not allow the United States Senate to 'leave town' until it passes The Save America Act or, far better still, Terminates The Filibuster, where Republicans can then quickly pass everything they ever dreamed of, including a full and deep throated Save America Act,' Trump wrote. 'The Dumocrats will do it on day one, and can't believe how lucky they got with this Senate leadership. Remember, stupidity always brings Losing & Death.' The bill would require proof of citizenship to register to vote and impose a national photo ID standard at the ballot box. Friday is the Senate's last scheduled working day before the August recess. Thune has repeatedly said the votes aren't there. Republicans hold 53 seats and need 60 to break a Democratic filibuster, and most of his conference refuses to touch the threshold. The Daily Mail contacted Thune's office for comment. Utah Senator Mike Lee lit the fuse on Sunday, posting on X that he objected 'to any effort to put the Senate into recess in August, at least until such time as the Senate has passed the SAVE America Act.' He demanded a roll call vote. Florida's Rick Scott piled in hours later: 'The American people expect us to deliver. They deserve secure elections.' Louisiana Senator John Kennedy took the softer line on CBS. 'I love John Thune. He's my leader. He's got a big brain. He's better looking than me,' he said, before adding that Thune is 'just being too cautious.' Senate Majority Leader John Thune told reporters last Thursday that the Senate has a busy two weeks of work ahead before August recess President Donald Trump has made passing the SAVE America Act a key part of his legislative agenda ahead of the midterms, one that Republicans in the Senate have yet to accomplish  The SAVE America Act, at least some version of it, has been passed by the US House of Representatives four times, but has not been passed by the Senate, where it needs 60 votes due to the filibuster. Even if all 53 Republicans were to vote for the bill, they would not be able to peel off the support of seven Democrats.  If passed, the SAVE America Act would implement election reforms, including requiring proof of US citizenship to register or update voter registrations for federal elections. It would also mandate the removal of noncitizens from voter rolls and force states to check federal databases to see if voters are allowed to cast ballots. Critics say the bill establishes barriers preventing eligible voters from casting ballots, while proponents argue it secures the electoral process.
