Trump criticises Canada over tariffs amid ongoing trade dispute

US President Donald Trump on Sunday criticised Canada over tariffs and renewed his criticism of Ottawa’s relationship with Washington. "Canada wants the benefits of being a State, without being one!!!" Trump wrote on Truth Social. He also accused Canada of imposing high tariffs on US agricultural products, saying: "They have also charged our great farmers, for many years, massive amounts of Tariffs. No more!!!" The comments came amid an ongoing trade dispute between the two countries. Earlier, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney accused the US of using new tariffs to "hurt and divide" Canada, calling the measures "a miscalculation" and pledging dollar-for-dollar retaliation beginning September 8.
