Roberts, who lived with his mum, plotted for at least three weeks before he carried out the brutal crime. He boasted on social media platform Discord that he was planning an "American Psycho"-style killing and repeatedly asked AI assistant DeepSeek about whether to use a hammer or knife.‌Roberts' violent attack began at around 11pm and lasted until 3.30am. He then led his mum outside, saying he was taking her to get medical help, but instead took her to an isolated area and shattered her skull with the hammer.
