Trio who stormed family-run jewellers in Ted Lasso's up-market Richmond face jail over roles in £225,000 rival smash-and-grab

Deniz Mehmet, Robert Clarke and Lee Ramsey pleaded guilty to conspiracy to rob after they were seen smashing the windows of Gregory & Co jewellers in Richmond, south-west London, with a large hammer. Eyewitness footage of the incident on January 31 went viral after the shop staff bravely tried to fend off the brazen attackers, who made off on foot with jewels worth around £225,000. Mehmet, 28, Clarke, 50, and Ramsey, 46, all from Essex, are due to be sentenced at the end of the month. It came as police released bodyworn footage of the three men being arrested - with the two older men appearing startled as they are arrested in the middle of the night while sleeping in bed. Detective Superintendent Dan Mitchell, from the Met's Flying Squad, said: 'Robberies of this kind cause real concern for residents and businesses in the communities that are targeted. It's they who feel the immediate impact. 'These guilty pleas mark a significant step in what has been a detailed and determined investigation. 'I hope they demonstrate our commitment to tackling smash‑and‑grab robberies in London by going after those involved, wherever they are. Extraordinary footage of the incident showed one of the men wearing dark clothes and a hood repeatedly pounding the shop's large glass window, which eventually gave way and was pulled away. His accomplice, also wearing dark clothing, stood holding a large blue plastic bag which the duo then stuffed full of watches, bracelets and other jewelry items in the shop window. Staff could be seen trying to fend the thieves off, but they were unsuccessful. The men fled the scene - where the American TV series Ted Lasso is filmed - on foot, in front of horrified onlookers who feared for their own safety. Specialist officers carried out an extensive review of CCTV footage, alongside forensic analysis and the recovery of a vehicle believed to be linked to the robbery. This painstaking work led to the identification of the three suspects, who were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit robbery in March and April this year. The family-run business later thanked the public. A spokesperson for Gregory & Co said: 'We're a local, independent, family jewellers and have been in Richmond for more than 45 years. 'The public response to this incident has been overwhelming and we are grateful for the support and kindness we've received. 'We are reassured that overall, good outweighs the bad.' A witness who worked nearby told the Daily Mail at the time: 'The two guys appeared out of nowhere carrying a large sledgehammer and a bag.' Mehmet pleaded guilty to conspiracy to rob at Kingston Crown Court today, while Ramsey and Clarke admitted the same offence last month.
