TRAGEDY after dad who was driving to meet his newborn child for first time encountered STREET RACER in BMW

Published: 20:39, 14 July 2026 | Updated: 20:42, 14 July 2026 A father driving to meet his newborn child for the first time was among two people killed in a horrific car crash in South Los Angeles. Sergio Hill, 32, died in the collision in the Hyde Park neighborhood on the morning of July 10. He was killed alongside his close friend Alvaro 'Tito' Castillo Jr, 35, when the Toyota Camry they were traveling in encountered a 'racing' BMW SUV. The Toyota was making a left turn when it was broadsided by the BMW, according to investigators. Eyewitnesses claimed to have seen the allegedly speeding vehicle racing with a Tesla moments before the crash. Hill and Castillo were pronounced dead at the scene while Castillo's daughter who was also a passenger was left in a critical condition.  She was transported to a local hospital by ambulance after Los Angeles firefighters and paramedics responded to the scene. The driver of the BMW was also injured and evaluated at the scene, but their identity and condition are currently unknown. 'I heard a "zoom'" go by and I could see them through my window,' Smith told KTLA News. 'And then you hear the 'Boom!' and I said, 'Somebody's gone,' because that was a loud boom and they were speeding very fast.' Smith also provided the station with footage from his surveillance cameras that appears to show the two vehicles speeding north on Crenshaw Boulevard moments before the collision. According to a Los Angeles Police Department Spokesperson, drugs and alcohol are not suspected to have played a role in the crash, as the unidentified BMW driver was given a sobriety test and released. LAPD Media Relations told the Daily Mail that there is no crime at this time and that it 'seems like it was a traffic accident,' but the incident remains under investigation. Hill leaves behind two sons and two daughters, while Castillo leaves behind two daughters. In a GoFundMe tribute to Hill, loved ones wrote: 'Sergio was the sweetest man, with the biggest smile that could brighten anyone’s day.  'He was humble, respectful, hardworking, and the kind of person who never hesitated to help others.'  Witness Ken Smith believes the victims were attempting to make a left turn when they were broadsided by a speeding BMW SUV that was engaged in a street race 'No matter how long the day was or how difficult the job became, Sergio showed up with a positive attitude and a heart full of generosity.  'He was someone you could always count on, and he made everyone around him feel like family. 'He loved deeply. He loved his family, cherished his friends, and worked tirelessly to build a better life for the people he cared about.  'He had so much life ahead of him, and his sudden passing has left an unimaginable void in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved him.'
