By JAMES GORDON, US NEWS REPORTER Published: 01:59, 22 August 2026 | Updated: 02:01, 22 August 2026 A first date between two Tinder matches spiraled into a deadly confrontation when the woman's former flame was shot dead at his Wyoming home by her new man.  Drake Alexander Ingalls, 24, was charged with second-degree murder after he shot Jason Greene dead at his Newcastle, Wyoming home on August 9, according to a probable cause affidavit obtained by Cowboy State Daily. Police found the victim dead in his home, lying face-down on the floor with a 'large pool of blood underneath his chest' just before 5am, the affidavit said. Ingalls drove 90 miles from his South Dakota home to meet up with a woman he had been speaking to for several weeks after the pair matched on the dating app, investigators said. But what began as their first face-to-face date allegedly spiraled into a deadly confrontation after the woman received an insulting text from Greene, her ex- boyfriend, while she and Ingalls were drinking at a local hotel. The woman told investigators that Greene sent her a message calling her a 'whore,' according to Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation Agent Zack Miller, who detailed the events in the probable cause affidavit. The woman allegedly told Ingalls that Greene had 'abused her in the past' and instructed her new date that if he heard her screaming for help, he should come to her aid, the affidavit states. She asked her Tinder date to drive her to Greene's home so she could confront him.  Drake Alexander Ingalls, 24, is charged with second-degree murder over the August 9 shooting death of Jason Greene in Newcastle, Wyoming Greene, meanwhile, allegedly had no idea that the pair were on their way to his residence. The court filing does not detail the precise nature of the woman's relationship with Greene. When they arrived, Ingalls initially remained outside while the woman approached Greene, but investigators said a 'heated verbal argument' soon erupted, with the woman yelling loudly enough for Ingalls to hear her from outside. Ingalls told investigators that he heard the woman scream for 'help' several times and went toward the trailer, taking a handgun that had been inside his vehicle with him. What happened next is at the center of the murder case, with Ingalls and the woman giving investigators sharply different accounts of the moments immediately before Greene was shot. The woman told investigators that Greene never physically attacked her. She 'adamantly stated Greene never assaulted her and the two were not in any physical altercation,' according to the affidavit. She also insisted that Ingalls 'did not need to shoot that gun at all,' Miller wrote. Jason Greene was found dead inside his Newcastle, Wyoming, home after suffering a single gunshot wound during the early-morning confrontation But Ingalls gave investigators a dramatically different account. 'Ingalls claimed he came around a shed and observed Greene struggling with [the woman] near the doorway threshold,' Miller stated. Ingalls described Greene as standing behind the woman with his arms hooked underneath her armpits and a hand against the back of her head or in her hair. He believed Greene appeared to be attempting to drag her inside the trailer, according to the affidavit. Ingalls said he tried to pull open the door before drawing his handgun, pointing it at Greene and demanding that he release the woman. 'At which point, Ingalls said he fired his handgun,' Miller wrote. Ingalls told investigators that the woman was between him and Greene and that only Greene's chest was visible when he pulled the trigger. He believed he struck Greene 'right in the middle of the chest,' according to the affidavit. Greene then stumbled backwards into the trailer and collapsed on the living room floor. Police responding to the shooting discovered a grim scene inside. An officer 'entered the trailer home and located the victim … lying face-down on the floor between the hallway and living room with a large pool of blood underneath his chest,' the affidavit states. Jason Greene is seen pictured with his mother Kimberly Domina 'Officers and emergency medical personnel confirmed Greene was deceased.' The Newcastle Police Department subsequently asked the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation to take over the case. Ingalls was arrested and charged with second-degree murder, but his attorney insists the 24-year-old is not a cold-blooded killer. Instead, defense lawyer David Holmes says Ingalls opened fire because he believed the woman he had driven nearly 90 miles to meet was in danger. 'We do intend to plead not guilty and, most likely, make a motion for … a claim of self-defense of others,' Holmes told Cowboy State Daily. 'My client and the gal involved, that was the first time they met in person, and my client had no prior interactions or knowledge of the deceased,' Holmes added. 'Defense of others is a viable defense claim in the state of Wyoming.' Holmes stressed that Ingalls did not know Greene before the deadly encounter and had traveled to Newcastle solely to meet the woman after the two connected on Tinder. The woman told investigators they had been talking for a couple of weeks before their date, while Ingalls said their conversations had been going on for a few months, according to the affidavit. Either way, investigators said August 9 was the first time the pair had met in person. The two had secured a room at a local hotel and spent hours drinking before the message from Greene allegedly arrived, setting in motion the chain of events that ultimately ended at his home. After receiving the insulting text, the woman allegedly became upset and asked Ingalls to take her to Greene's residence 'so she could talk to him.' She told Ingalls about Greene's alleged past treatment of her before warning him to intervene if he heard her call for help, according to investigators. However, when questioned afterward, the woman told authorities that Greene had never assaulted her during the encounter that night. Ingalls' attorney argues that what mattered was what his client believed he was witnessing in the seconds before he fired the fatal shot. 'I don't agree that this was cold-blooded murder,' Holmes told Cowboy State Daily following Ingalls' preliminary hearing Wednesday. 'This was a case where Mr. Ingalls acted out of self-defense for the other individual involved.' Holmes also pointed to his client's lack of a criminal record and emphasized that only a single shot was fired. 'He has zero criminal history, and this is a case where one shot was fired,' the attorney said. Ingalls was bound over to Weston County District Court on Wednesday to face the second-degree murder charge. He remains behind bars at the Weston County Detention Center on a $250,000 bond. If convicted of second-degree murder, Ingalls faces a sentence ranging from 20 years to life in prison, as well as a potential fine of up to $10,000.
