David Berding / Getty Images Share article1Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards left Game 4 against the Denver Nuggets with a left knee injury and will not return, the second serious injury the Wolves suffered in the game. Edwards was injured in the second quarter when he went up to try to block a shot from Nuggets forward Cam Johnson. As he came down, his left knee buckled, and he needed to be helped to the locker room. The Timberwolves issued an injury update that said he would miss the rest of the game with a left knee injury. The team did not offer any more specifics. Edwards has been bothered by inflammation in his right knee for much of the last five weeks. He has played through the discomfort in this series. Game 4 was the first time he was not listed as questionable on the injury report, which coach Chris Finch said was a sign that his condition was improving. That gave the Timberwolves hope that they could upset the favored Nuggets in this series as they carried a 2-1 lead into the game on Saturday night. But they lost starter Donte DiVincenzo in the first quarter to a lower right leg injury, and he had to be helped off the floor as well. Losing Edwards for any length of time would be a crushing blow to the Wolves’ playoff hopes. He is their leading scorer, their emotional leader and the player who draws the attention of the defense and opens opportunities for everyone else around him.
