The nuptials were so ‘Hollywood’ that he and his grungy yet effortlessly stylish new wife, Californian model Gabbriette Bechtel, 28, said ‘I do’ underneath the iconic Hollywood sign as the sun set on Saturday evening. The bride, dressed in a traditional white wedding gown with a sweetheart neckline, ruffled long sleeves and trailing veil, and the groom, in a black suit and bow tie, said their vows in front of their nearest and dearest in the garden of the 1920s estate Castillo Del Lago – once owned by Madonna. At 7pm, Healy kissed his wife, passionately drawing her into a romantic embrace. The guest list was eclectic. A-list model Emily Ratajkowski was there, along with model Alex Consani. British singer Charli XCX, wife of The 1975 drummer George Daniel, also attended, with one guest describing the wedding as ‘all very brat’ in a direct reference to Charli XCX’s Grammy-award-winning album Brat, which was inspired by the bride. Released in the summer of 2024, it prompted a movement which saw women bond over their playful defiance, messy fashion and rebellious nature. At 7pm, Healy kissed his wife Bechtel, who goes by the single name Gabbriette, was lead singer of Nasty Cherry, the all-girl punk band set up by Charli XCX, and is famed for her bleached or ultra-thin brows, smudged eyeliner and dark, edgy make-up. Yet Healy, 37, didn’t forget his northern roots. Not only was his beloved mother, the former Coronation Street actress and Loose Women panellist Denise Welch there, but also her close friend, actress Sally Dynevor, who has played Corrie veteran Sally Metcalfe for 40 years. Sally is Bridgerton actress Phoebe Dynevor’s mother. ‘It was very, very cool to have Corrie legends there,’ says a source close to the wedding. Matty’s father Tim Healy, star of British comedies including Benidorm and Auf Wiedersehen, Pet, was also in attendance, apparently entertaining his son and new daughter-in-law’s pals with his quick wit. Matty and his bandmates from The 1975 played a set for their guests as they partied until the small hours. One guest tells me: ‘It had all of the Hollywood glamour without being ostentatious or cringe. It was classic old showbiz, it was beautiful.’ The comments beg the question what would Healy’s ex, pop megastar Taylor Swift, have made of his special day. The couple dated for two months in 2023, but those who know Taylor believe that Healy was ‘the one who got away’ and she was devastated when they split. Healy’s old Hollywood wedding, say sources, is precisely the ‘vibe’ Taylor may have preferred over her audacious big day on July 3 when she married American football superstar Travis Kelce. The couple wed at Madison Square Garden in New York in front of 1,000 guests, some of whom, say sources, Taylor barely knew. Among the celebrities invited were Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Ellie Goulding and Hugh Grant. Hollywood actor and comedian Adam Sandler officiated. While one guest told me ‘it wasn’t how you’d think it was like in there, it was actually lovely’, another sniped: ‘Taylor basically got married at the O2 [the enormous London music venue]. It didn’t seem like her at all. She loves old Hollywood glamour.’ There were also raised eyebrows when Taylor held her bachelorette party on the same weekend as Healy’s bride Gabbriette. British singer Charli XCX, wife of The 1975 drummer George Daniel, also attended, with one guest describing the wedding as ‘all very brat’ 'Taylor Swift’s world was all just too mad and unstable for Denise and she hated what it did to Matty', a friend revealed  While the pop star had a low-key bash at her mansion in Rhode Island, joined by the likes of model Gigi Hadid and actress Selena Gomez, Gabbriette headed off to Las Vegas, chartering a private jet to Sin City where she shared pictures of herself handcuffed, while another photograph saw her posing provocatively in a car wearing vintage Chanel. A man dressed as a police officer spanked her with a baton before picking her up and carrying her on to the private jet. In a nod to her future husband, she also posed in front of balloons spelling out ‘Mrs Healy’ at the Wynn Las Vegas Hotel. Other pictures showed fake 100-dollar bills spread across the floor and Gabbriette posing with burlesque star Dita Von Teese and dancing with an Elvis impersonator. ‘That shows just how different the women are,’ says a source who knows both. Matty began dating Gabbriette shortly after he dumped Taylor. The pair met when Gabbriette went to watch The 1975 in Los Angeles. They got engaged in June 2024, with Healy proposing with a black diamond ring. His mother, 68, excitedly confirmed the news to her fellow panellists on Loose Women: ‘I have known for a few weeks that Matty got engaged,’ adding that the ring was a ‘black diamond, he had it made for her, and I couldn’t be more thrilled’. And I’m also told that Welch is thrilled that it wasn’t Taylor who her son married. Friends say she much prefers Gabbriette. Healy’s mother flew to Los Angeles and attended the wedding ceremony with her husband, artist Lincoln Townley. The couple – and Welch’s ex-husband Tim, 74 – stayed at the glamorous Sunset Tower Hotel as they helped their son prepare for his big day. A friend said: ‘Matty really did love Taylor, but it was her insane fanbase that broke them up. Denise hated what that did to Matty and how unsupportive Taylor was during it, getting her PR to make out they were “just a fling”, which really exacerbated matters and then Taylor wrote an entire album about it! ‘Taylor’s world was all just too mad and unstable for Denise and she hated what it did to Matty. ‘She loves Gabbriette, who is way more down-to-earth and supportive of her son. She couldn’t be happier.’ Neither could the newlyweds. As for Taylor, some suggest there might be some niggling regrets that she didn’t make it work with Matty.
