By LETTICE BROMOVSKY AT WIMBLEDON Published: 10:02, 1 July 2026 | Updated: 10:12, 1 July 2026 Britain's Wimbledon hopes got off to a dismal start - but a wild card and his glamorous tennis WAG have finally provided some cheer. Jacob Fearnley's girlfriend Keagan Polk has a head for figures, working as an accountant - as well as being a beach volleyball player - and the numbers finally fell her partner's way on Court 15. Ms Polk was overcome with emotion after Fearnley completed a remarkable comeback to reach the second round at Wimbledon - as she fought back tears courtside before telling him: 'I love you.' The 24-year-old Scottish wild card looked destined for a first-round exit yesterday after going two sets down to US contender Alex Michelsen. But the British world number 159 produced a superb fightback to win 3-6 4-6 6-2 6-3 6-2 after three and a half hours, prompting emotional scenes in the stands. Speaking to the Daily Mail afterwards, Ms Polk admitted she was moved less by the result itself than by the way Fearnley had dragged himself back into the contest. She said: 'Honestly, going into the fifth set, regardless of the outcome - I was just happy because he had played good enough tennis to get himself back in the match.’ The couple have been together for almost five years after meeting as students at Texas Christian University (TCU), where Fearnley developed his game before turning professional. Ms Polk, an American who was born and raised in Dallas-Fort Worth, recalled that it was effectively love at first sight. 'From the moment I saw him, I thought he was the most beautiful man,' she said. She joked that it took 'some months of resistance' before Fearnley finally came around, before explaining what first drew her to him. Jacob Fearnley's glamorous girlfriend Keagan Polk (pictured) is supporting him at Wimbledon Keagan Polk and Jacob Fearnley after his first round victory at Wimbledon yesterday Jacob Fearnley celebrates victory over Alex Michelsen on day two of Wimbledon yesterday Jacob Fearnley and Keagan Polk met as students at Texas Christian University five years ago Keagan Polk played volleyball at Texas Christian University, where she met Jacob Fearnley 'He's perfect. He's got a great accent… And he's also just a super, super nice guy, genuinely one of the nicest people you'll ever meet.' They had met by chance because Fearnley's next-door neighbour happened to be a volleyball player on the same team as Ms Polk. Ms Polk has now stopped playing, but their matchmaker neighbour was Daniela Alvarez Mendoza, an Olympian who competed in beach volleyball for Spain at Paris 2024. She explained how Ms Mendoza invited her to a tailgate at the university one evening where the couple caught eyes for the first time. Unlike many partners on the tennis circuit, Ms Polk does not travel full-time. Instead she works as a tax accountant for a wealth management firm in Dallas and says the demands of her career mean she is only able to attend a handful of tournaments each year. 'I work full time, so tennis is extremely unpredictable,' she said. 'I maybe go to four or five tournaments a year, so definitely not tennis girlfriend.' This year's Wimbledon has been different, however. Before starting a new job in mid-July, Ms Polk has been able to spend more time in London with Fearnley. The pair have been enjoying coffee trips and exploring the city away from the intensity of the Championships. The touching moment on court continued after the match, with Ms Polk revealing Fearnley had only one thing on his mind after embracing her. Jacob Fearnley's girlfriend Keagan Polk spoke to the Daily Mail after her boyfriend's victory Keagan Polk (circled) applauds as Jacob Fearnley celebrates the win with his team yesterday 'He is like a wizard, so after he finishes matches, he disappears,’ she said. ‘I sometimes try to catch him, but I'm afraid he's gone now. He just told me to make sure his mother doesn't leave, because he wants to give her a hug.' Now, as they both look to round two, she nervously admitted that 'anything can happen on grass' but she had faith in his 'passion for the game'. Fearnley will face Spaniard Jaume Munar, who beat Queen’s Club champion Francisco Cerundolo, in the second round. Fearnley was born in Edinburgh to mother Samantha, an HR manager at the NHS, and father Craig, who worked for Johnson Controls which produces fire and security equipment for buildings. He started playing tennis at the age of three and practised with Roger Federer at Wimbledon when he was a junior. Fearnley played in his first professional tennis tournament in 2018 at the Murray Trophy in Glasgow where he was offered a wildcard. He then went on to attend TCU where he studied kinesiology, the study of human movement. Fearnley won a series of accolades at TCU, including topping the doubles rankings, assisting the university to number one in the team rankings and winning back-to-back National Indoor Championships. He won his first ATP Challenger title as a qualifier at the Rothesay Open Nottingham in 2024, which saw him make it into the top 500 for the first time. Fearnley then won four more titles to match Jack Draper's record of Challenger trophies won in a single year. Keagan Polk watches as Jacob Fearnley celebrates with his team after his Wimbledon victory Jacob Fearnley celebrates victory in his first round match as Keagan Polk (circled) applauds  In October 2024, he broke into the world's top 100 for the first time in his career – after reaching Wimbledon’s round two in July that year and taking a set off Novak Djokovic. He was beaten 6-3 6-4 5-7 7-5 by the Serb on Centre Court.  All 10 British players who completed their matches on Monday lost, while Jack Draper joined Emma Raducanu in pulling out of the tournament. But there were improvements on Tuesday, launched by Katie Swan claiming only the second grand slam singles victory of a career she feared might be slipping away.  At 12.29pm on day two of the Championships, the 27-year-old became the first home favourite to reach the second round with a 6-4 6-4 success over Romanian world number 173 Irina-Camelia Begu. And Arthur Fery capitalised on a loss of cool from opponent Damir Dzumhur to claim a second Wimbledon singles victory. Veteran Bosnian Dzumhur looked to be in control leading by a set and 2-0 when he reacted furiously to what he perceived as a missed let call on a serve, marching to the net to question Fery on whether he had hesitated before returning and then taking out his ire on umpire Greg Allensworth. Allensworth eventually lost patience with Dzumhur and gave him a warning, which prompted the 34-year-old to ask for the supervisor to be called to court. British number three Fery broke serve for the first time on the point following the confrontation and from there turned the match around completely, winning nine straight games. Like at Queen’s, Fery needed treatment for a nosebleed, but it did not halt his momentum and he cruised through the final set to win 3-6 6-2 6-2 6-1. No comments have so far been submitted.
