The 80-year-old star, best known for her dual role as twins Susan and Sharon in the classic 1961 Disney film, was caught driving at 28mph in a 20mph zone. Mills was fined £100 plus a £40 victim surcharge and given three penalty points for the offence at Lavender Hill Magistrates' Court in South West London today. She did not appear in court but had previously admitted exceeding the speed limit last year on the A306 Rocks Lane in Barnes, near her £1million home. Mills, who was described in court as a 'national treasure', was caught by a speed camera on October 29 at 11.14am while driving in her grey diesel vehicle. Prosecutor Matt Longhurst said: 'This is the childhood actress and national treasure. She currently has three penalty points on her driving licence for a speeding offence.' Her partner, Indian-born actor and writer Firdous Bamji, emailed the court: 'I am submitting this on behalf of Hayley Mills, who has recently undergone emergency surgery for a hernia and is in hospital.' Mills herself said in a message passed to the court: 'It is with great regret that I am unable to come to court.' Bench chairman John Soones said: 'The fine will be reverted back to when it was a fixed penalty, which was missed on reasonable grounds because she was not at home.' Mills - the daughter of legendary actor Sir John Mills and actress Mary Hayley Bell -has won two Baftas, three Golden Globes and is an official 'Disney Legend'. The former child star appeared in six Disney films, including the movie adaptation of her own mother's novel 'Whistle Down the Wind'.
