The General Authority for Civil Aviation Announces the Reopening of All Air Corridors

The General Authority for Civil Aviation and Air Transport announced on Wednesday the reopening of all previously closed air corridors, coinciding with the complete and orderly resumption of operations at Damascus International Airport.

In its official statement, the Authority affirmed that air traffic has returned across the entirety of Syrian airspace. It also confirmed that Damascus International Airport has resumed full operational activity, with flights arriving and departing according to approved schedules.

Omar al-Husri, Head of the General Authority for Civil Aviation and Air Transport, explained that the reopening of air corridors and the restoration of airport operations followed a comprehensive technical evaluation.

In a post on the X platform, al-Husri noted that this assessment was carried out in close coordination with regional and international partners, as well as air traffic control centers in neighboring states. The purpose, he said, was to ensure the highest standards of aviation safety and to strengthen the efficiency and fluidity of air navigation in line with global requirements.

He added that the Authority continues to monitor operational conditions in real time through a specialized risk-management committee. He emphasized the institution’s commitment to reopening all levels of airspace and air routes, along with the gradual reactivation of airports and the full return of aviation services.

The Syrian General Authority for Civil Aviation had previously announced, on February 28, the temporary closure of southern air corridors due to the war on Iran and heightened regional security tensions. That closure was later extended as conditions evolved.

The decision to reopen all air corridors and restore air traffic follows the announcement of a two-week ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran.
