The top hotspots for vehicle insurance fraud in Wales have been collated as millions of people claim on their car insurance each year. Across the UK fraudulent claims of accidents and theft have risen with the Insurance Fraud Bureau (IFB) receiving more public reports of insurance fraud than ever before. New scam techniques have been used in Wales in an attempt to con insurance companies into paying out drivers including dangerous crash for cash roundabout stunts, to new drivers’ details being stolen on social media to facilitate bogus claims, according to the IFB. The bureau has analysed 3.3 million to identify the top hotspots for motor insurance fraud in Wales. The National Security Strategy 2025 also identifies fraud as "the most common and one of the most corrosive threats facing individuals and businesses in the UK". Lord David Hanson, Minister for Fraud, said: "Honest customers are facing higher insurance premiums because of fraudsters’ pursuit of profits. We won't accept it and are working with the Insurance Fraud Bureau to take the fight to these callous fraudsters. "Our new Fraud Strategy sets out how we will use every tool at our disposal to dismantle criminal operations, bring fraudsters to justice and strengthen protections for victims."
