Thane doctor downloads file on WhatsApp, loses ₹60K in online delivery scam

An unknown individual contacted him via WhatsApp, claiming to be a customer care executive. (Representational )Complainant Abdul Vahid Jalaluddin Siddiqui (46), a resident of Mumbra, had purchased items online but did not receive his delivery. When he searched online for customer care assistance, he was unable to reach a valid number. Shortly afterwards, an unknown individual contacted him via WhatsApp, claiming to be a customer care executive. Upon downloading and installing the application, the doctor's phone briefly turned off, the police said. Shortly after restarting the device, he received bank notification alerts informing him that ₹60,000 had been unauthorisedly debited from his account, they said.
