Terrified mum pleaded with friend to look after her children just before she died in crash

Jade Duncan, 41, made a series of frantic calls as she travelled with drink-driver Sean Hogan to England. Predicting the speeding driver would end up killing her, she begged a friend to make sure her two children were cared for after she died.  Ms Duncan, from Dundee, was then killed when the Peugeot 407 she was in crashed into an embankment in Northumberland on January 28. Newcastle Crown Court heard that Hogan, 46, was banned from driving at the time of the crash and that during the journey from Dundee to North Tyneside, he had already clipped another car in Haddington, East Lothian. Prosecutor Omar Ahmad said: ‘A friend in Dundee received multiple messages from Ms Duncan stating the defendant was intoxicated while driving and he was going to kill her. Jade Duncan made a series of frantic calls as she travelled with Sean Hogan to England Hogan admitted causing death by dangerous driving ‘Jade Duncan then made a further and said: “He’s f****** hit a car, we are in a field, he’s doing 100mph, he’s going to kill us. Will you look after my bairns”?’ A following video call would show her screaming. It was the last contact the friend had with Ms Duncan.  Hogan’s car flew 157ft through the air before hitting an embankment at Berwick-upon-Tweed. Ms Duncan suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. Her children, Raychel and Robbie, said in their impact statements that ‘their family’s world came crashing down’ due to Hogan’s actions. Hogan, of no fixed abode admitted causing death by dangerous driving and driving while disqualified. He suffered a life-changing brain injury in the crash. Judge Penny Moreland jailed Hogan for 13 years and four months. She said: ‘You showed an utter disregard for the risk of danger to others.’
