Teenager, 17, stabbed in the head during alleged Sydney brawl as 18-year-old is charged

By CAITLIN POWELL - NEWS REPORTER Published: 03:51, 25 July 2026 | Updated: 03:51, 25 July 2026 An 18-year-old boy has been charged after a teenager was allegedly set upon by a group and stabbed in the head in Sydney's inner west. Emergency services were called to busy King Street in Newtown just after 12.30am on Saturday. Officers received reports that a teenager had been assaulted by a group before they fled the scene. A 17-year-old boy was treated by paramedics before being taken to hospital in a stable condition for treatment of multiple stab wounds to the head and back.  Officers established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the incident. By lunchtime on Saturday, police said they had established that the 17-year-old and the 18-year-old were known to each other.  Officers allege the pair were involved in an altercation with three unknown males before the trio allegedly stabbed the younger boy.  Police said they have recovered two knives. The investigation remains ongoing. The 18-year-old was arrested at the scene and taken to Newtown Police Station, where he was charged with affray. He was granted conditional bail to appear before Newtown Local Court on Tuesday, August 18.
