Taylor Swift breaks down in tears after marathon 21-minute Songwriters Hall of Fame speech as Travis Kelce ditches training camp to support her

Taylor Swift achieved a historic milestone on Thursday evening when she became the youngest woman ever inducted into the Songwriters' Hall of Fame during a ceremony at New York City's Marriott Marquis Hotel.

The 36-year-old Grammy winner delivered an emotional 21-minute acceptance speech reflecting on her 23-year journey in the music industry.

"The absolute magical chaos of this path that I chose when I was too young to remember it ever being a choice at all: songwriting was the easiest thing I ever did," Ms Swift told the crowd.

Prior to taking the stage, the singer received a musical tribute from Sombr, who performed her tracks Dear John and Cardigan, which Swift described as "perfect".

The most poignant moment came when the Love Story broke down in tears while addressing her parents, Andrea and Scott Swift, who were present in the audience.

"It was easy to choose songwriting over everything else in my life," she said.

"But it couldn't have been easy for my parents and my brother to just pick up and move our entire family from Pennsylvania to relocate to Nashville so that I could hone my craft in the songwriting capital of the world."

Ms Swift acknowledged that her family completely transformed their lives once they recognised her passion for music was genuine rather than a fleeting teenage interest.

Pausing to compose herself, she looked directly at her parents and declared: "You're the reason I'm here tonight."

Legendary filmmaker Mr Steven Spielberg presented the singer with the honour after she specifically requested him when asked who she wanted to induct her.

Ms Swift revealed that within an hour of mentioning his name to the organisation, she found herself on the telephone with both Mr Spielberg and his wife, Ms Kate Capshaw.

"And he was telling me yes, absolutely he would be thrilled to be here," Ms Swift recounted, adding that his response left her "completely blown away."

The director's attendance was particularly significant given that his latest film, Disclosure Day, was due to be released at midnight that evening.

Mr Capshaw offered Ms Swift words that resonated deeply with the singer: "Good and true things are easy."

Ms Swift described the sentiment as something she would never forget.
