Talented cricketer who died after Audi plunged into a river is mourned by loved ones - as two men are charged over the fatal crash

By OLIVIA DAY, ASSISTANT NEWS EDITOR, AUSTRALIA and CAITLIN POWELL - NEWS REPORTER and KYLIE STEVENS, SENIOR BREAKING NEWS REPORTER, AUSTRALIA Published: 00:22, 7 May 2026 | Updated: 00:22, 7 May 2026 The young man who drowned after an Audi plunged into a weir in a national park is being remembered as a talented cricket player and a 'dear friend'.  Muhammad Kashif, 20, became trapped in a car after it veered off the roadway and plunged into the Audley Weir in the Royal National Park about 1.15am on Wednesday.  The driver of the blue Audi sedan, also 20, was able to free himself from the vehicle.  Mr Kashif's body was found by rescuers at 10.20am.  The driver of the Audi has been charged with dangerous driving occasioning death.  An 18-year-old man alleged to have been driving a silver Mercedes sedan has been charged with driving with a suspended license, not complying with high-performance vehicle restrictions, holding a phone while driving, driving without displaying P-plates and possessing a prohibited substance.
