A 39-year-old woman was charged with attempting to drown her daughters in the Georges River at Liverpool, in Sydney's south west, on September 11, 2023. The mother and two girls cannot be named for legal reasons. Police found the woman in the area after she fell from the Light Horse Bridge. Her daughters were pulled from the river by a passer-by more than two hours later. The woman then appeared at Parramatta District Court on Tuesday. Court documents, seen by news.com.au, included agreed facts, which have not been in contention, that outlined the events of the incident. They revealed the woman told the children they would not be going to school on September 11, 2023, and that she had a 'surprise' before taking them along Light Horse Bridge. After walking them to a grassy area around 1.8m above the river, she asked one daughter if she wanted to 'go to heaven now' but the little girl said: 'No, I have a bright future.' A 39-year-old woman was charged with attempting to drown her daughters in the Georges River at Liverpool, in Sydney's south west, on September 11, 2023 She then threw herself from Light Horse Bridge Judge Huw Baker SC is due to make a mental health judgment on Wednesday. It will then be decided whether the mother can stand trial When the mother said she could 'do those things in heaven', the girl replied: 'No thanks, I want to be a police officer when I grow up.' The woman threw the little girl into the water and then her second daughter, also asking if she wanted to 'go to god'. The court documents noted the two daughters were 'inexperienced' swimmers who 'immediately had trouble breathing in the water'. 'The accused watched (them) whilst they pleaded and begged to be let out of the river,' the file said. 'They screamed out, "We learned our lesson, please let us back up".' The girls floated in the river, hugging, for about two hours before their screams were heard and they were saved by a stranger, the court documents said. One of them told the stranger: 'She wanted a break from all the noise, she wanted peace and quiet, she just drove us here, and she drove home in the car. 'Mum said, 'Do you want to go to God?' I said, 'I don't want to, I still have a lot of things to do here' and she didn't listen, she still threw me in the water.' The woman leapt from the bridge but survived the 7m fall. The documents noted she had told paramedics that voices said 'kill yourself' to her for over a year. The file also revealed that the mother had allegedly told her ex-husband she had been seeing 'spirits' and 'evil' in her home. She claimed she bought a 'Native American teepee tent, tarot cards, and spices' online to 'kick the evil out of the house'. Judge Huw Baker SC is due to make a mental health judgment on Wednesday. It will then be decided whether the mother can stand trial. Sorry we are not currently accepting comments on this article.
