Summer concert series on King's Sandringham estate is axed over soaring costs and low ticket sales

Published: 07:58, 14 July 2026 | Updated: 08:00, 14 July 2026 A summer concert series on the King's Sandringham estate has been axed - with the organiser blaming an 'increasingly saturated festival market' and low ticket sales. Three Heritage Live festivals will no longer go ahead despite 'desperate work behind the scenes' amid soaring artist and staffing costs. GCE Live, which describes itself as 'one of the few remaining British independent promoters', had promised line-ups including Christina Aguilera, Eric Clapton and Lionel Richie at the royal estate in Norfolk in August. The Scissor Sisters were due to perform at Audley End House in Essex, also in August, while Richard Ashcroft was among the headliners at the Englefield Estate in Berkshire in July - as part of a series held at three historical country estates. Concerts at Sandringham would have taken place two miles from Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor's new home in Wolferton on the royal estate. In a message on its website, GCE Live said: 'We're devastated to report the heartbreaking news that we have no choice but to cancel this summer's HeritageLive festivals at the Englefield Estate, the Audley End Estate and the Sandringham Estate. 'We'd been working desperately hard behind the scenes to conclude an investment and equity package to ease the burden of an extraordinarily tough year, but this last beacon of hope has fallen through at the 11th hour, making it impossible to go ahead. 'As one of the few remaining British independent promoters, it's become almost impossible to compete in what has become an increasingly saturated festival market.' GCE Live, which describes itself as 'one of the few remaining British independent promoters', had promised Christina Aguilera (pictured) as part of its line-up Apologising for 'letting everyone down', the firm referenced high supplier, artist and staffing costs - as well as 'several shows having far lower than average ticket sales'. Around 30,000 fans had been expected to attend the festival at Sandringham from between August 19 and 23, starting with a performance by Janet Jackson supported by Soul II Soul and Wyclef Jean. Richie had been due to perform his only show on August 20 while Aguilera, Craig David and Blue were lined up for August 21. On August 22, Ricky Martin, the Sugababes and Olly Alexander were set to appear followed by Clapton, the Rolling Stones' Ronnie Wood and Andy Fairweather Low on August 23. King Charles began hosting the Heritage Live concerts in 2023. The series had grown from three days to five days this year, with glamping and camping offered in surrounding fields. GCE Live said its ticket agents should offer refunds 'within a reasonable period'. The firm added: 'Thank you so much to everyone who has supported and enjoyed our events over the past 10 years.  'Whilst this is devastating news, we hope that in time you're able to look back with fond memories to those happier days; we've had so many awesome and magical moments over the years and hope they remain in your hearts forever.'
