Steven Gerrard is in contention to land the Burnley job if the newly relegated side do choose to part ways with Scott Parker. The Liverpool icon has held jobs in the Premier League and in Scotland , but never the second tier of English football. He's keen to get back into the dugout and would be among those in the frame if there was a fancy at Turf Moor. Parker has been at Burnley for two years, guiding them to promotion with 100 points, but failed to build on that as the Clarets dropped straight back into the Championship. Their relegation was confirmed last week when they lost to Manchester City . TalkSport understands that talks are ongoing over Burnley's managerial situation, with there being a realistic chance of Parker moving on. If that did happen then Gerrard would be among the leading contenders to take on the role. Craig Bellamy, who played with Gerrard at Liverpool, would also be among the candidates. Bellamy is currently in charge at Wales, but prior to that was an assistant to Vincent Kompany at Burnley and made a strong impression. Gerrard is now tax-exempt from his time in Saudi Arabia, having been required to remain outside of the country for a full tax year following his exit from Al Ettifaq in January 2025. He is no longer contracted to the Saudi Pro League side having stayed on after his departure as a consultant. Aston Villa was Gerrard's last job in England, before he was axed in October 2022 following just shy of a year in the job. Burnley would likely be among the favourites to come straight back up next year, possibly presenting the 45-year-old with the chance to manage in the Premier League again. His ex-England colleague Frank Lampard chose to step down into the Championship after several top flight roles, but has returned by virtue of getting Coventry promoted, which has seen his stock rise. There are set to be a number of Premier League roles available this summer, which could see Gerrard wait before making a decision. Crystal Palace and Bournemouth have both confirmed that their managers are moving on. Marco Silva's contract at Fulham is also up when the season ends.
