Speaker Mike Johnson gives cold response as he's grilled on GOP congressman accused of beating ex-wife

By PHILLIP NIETO, US POLITICAL REPORTER Published: 22:07, 15 May 2026 | Updated: 22:18, 15 May 2026 Speaker Mike Johnson has finally responded to a Daily Mail exposé detailing domestic abuse allegations against a sitting GOP congressman accused of throwing boiling water at his wife in front of their infant daughter. Miller's ex-wife, Emily Moreno, the daughter of sitting GOP Ohio Senator Bernie Moreno, has accused Miller of assaulting her in February and, in a separate incident, throwing a pot of boiling water at her in June 2024 while they were married.  Both incidents allegedly occurred in front of their daughter, according to court documents and three sources who spoke to the Daily Mail. Photos of Moreno's injuries from the alleged abuse were published in the Daily Mail's original report. Miller has vehemently denied the allegations and is suing her for defamation. 'I don't get involved in the personal lives of members and those things. You know, he's refuted some of these allegations, and he's got to work that out,' Johnson told NBC News when asked about the scandal.  The allegations against the 37-year-old Miller, who Trump endorsed in an uncontested GOP primary just weeks ago, come as Emily seeks sweeping changes to their custody arrangement over what she described in court documents as growing concerns about his conduct and behavior. The couple married at Trump's Bedminster golf club in August 2022, with the President himself in attendance, before Miller filed for divorce on their second wedding anniversary two years later. Following the publication of Daily Mail's story, Miller accused his former father-in-law and fellow Ohio Republican Senator Moreno of continuing 'to fund and enable his daughter's malicious campaign to ruin my life despite his knowledge of her mental health issues.' Senator Moreno and the White House have not responded to the accusations levied at Miller. One source told the Daily Mail that Miller often uses litigation and the expenses that come with it to silence women accusing him of physical abuse The allegations against Miller, who Trump endorsed in an uncontested GOP primary just days ago, come as Emily seeks sweeping changes to their custody arrangement over what she described in court documents as growing concerns about his conduct and behavior A handwritten letter allegedly written by Miller to Moreno the same day as the boiling water incident shows the Congressman apologizing to his then-wife for failing to protect her, though he does not admit to any physical abuse.
