Spain's World Cup winning goalscorer Ferran Torres wore a "Make Spain Great Again" cap during his nation's victory parade.

Torres wore the hat through Madrid on the team's open-top bus on Monday.

The headwear, mirroring the iconic red hue of Donald Trump's 2016 campaign merchandise, quickly caught the eye of the White House's official X account, which responded by declaring that "everyone wants in on the movement".

The phrase "Make America Great Again" was originally used during Ronald Reagan's 1980 presidential bid before Trump adopted it more than 30 years later.

It has been shortened down to "MAGA" and has become synonymous with Trump's political base over the past decade.

Torres earned his moment of celebration by coming off the substitutes' bench to net the decisive goal in Sunday's final, securing a 1-0 victory over reigning champions Argentina at MetLife Stadium in New York.

Speaking after the match, an emotional Torres insisted the strike belonged not to him but to an entire nation.

He said: "I think in the end, the goal belongs to 47 million people, not to me.

Within hours of lifting the trophy in front of a packed stadium, La Roja were airborne and heading back across the Atlantic, arriving at Madrid's Barajas Airport by 2:30pm local time on Monday - less than a day after their triumph on American soil.

Torres' cap was not the sole display at the Madrid parade that caught the eye.

Teammate Lamine Yamal held up a sign reading "Velada del ano VII: Paredes vs Gavi", a reference to Spain's popular celebrity amateur boxing events, mocking Argentina midfielder Leandro Paredes for his violent conduct after the final whistle.

Paredes had grabbed Eric Garcia by the throat and pushed Gavi to the ground in disgraceful scenes that triggered a mass confrontation on the pitch.

The Boca Juniors player was also lucky to have avoided a dismissal during normal time after committing a foul near the box that gave Yamal a late free-kick before extra time.

Enzo Fernandez, sent off for a dangerous tackle on Pau Cubarsi, defiantly insisted Argentina had represented their country in the "best way possible".

Argentina faced widespread condemnation for their post-match conduct.

Rather than celebrating into the night in New York, Spain's squad chose to head straight home.

Golden Ball recipient Rodri set the tone for the journey, leading his teammates in song on the bus as they made their way back to the hotel for dinner before continuing to Newark Airport.

Following an audience with King Felipe and the Royal Family, the team paraded through the capital to Plaza de Cibeles.
