Somalian-born British man appears in court charged with attempted murder after five people were struck by a car in London

Ahmed Timir, 34, is accused of driving into a crowd at a crossing on Ealing Broadway in West London at 2.30pm on 27 June. Timir also allegedly drove away from the scene in a white Seat Leon leaving five people injured as terrified shoppers looked on. Police arrested him a short distance from the scene of the car crash. Appearing at Willesden Magistrates' Court, Timir did not enter any pleas to five allegations of attempted murder, failing to stop at the scene of an accident, dangerous driving, not giving a sample for a breathalyser test and damaging property. He spoke to confirm his name and date of birth while wearing a grey tracksuit. Kate Fassam-Wright, prosecuting said: 'As the vehicle approaches the pedestrian crossing the traffic light was red and a large number of pedestrians were crossing. Police forensic officers gathering evidence at the scene in Ealing Broadway, West London Ahmed Timir appeared at Willesden Magistrates' Court accused of attempted murder today 'At this point the defendant drove forward directly through the crossing striking multiple individuals. 'Several victims were projected into the air causing serious injuries including broken facial bones and a broken pelvis.' Magistrate Caroline Walsh remanded him into custody until 27 July when he will appear at the Old Bailey. Two of the five people injured were treated at the scene and three were taken to hospital where their injuries were found to be none-life-threatening. Counter Terrorism Policing London conducted the initial inquiries, but the incident is not being treated as terrorism.  The force said: 'While investigators are keeping an open mind as to any potential motive, the incident is not being treated as terrorism.'
