Social media reacts to tennis star Aryna Sabalenka's comments on WTA transgender rules

Aryna Sabalenka has stirred up quite a bit of discourse on social media over the last 24 hours, and it had nothing to do with what she wore in her latest match.

The number one women's tennis player in the world went on record Monday saying that she's in favor of the WTA's new transgender eligibility policy, which includes a genetic screening requirement.

The Belarusian star was asked about it during her Canadian Open press conference in Montreal, and she did not hold back, calling it a necessary step and saying, "It's really important to keep the fairness in our tour."

While most applauded Sabalenka for her take as well as the WTA for trying to keep their league fair, not everyone on social media was thrilled.

As they did with the Sophie Cunningham/WNBA trans debate, plenty of people on social media chose to bury their heads in the sand, saying that biological men in women's sports isn't a real problem.

Others resorted to the "old standby" of leftists everywhere: When all other arguments fail, just call your opponent a "bigot" and a "transphobe."

While a very loud, vocal minority took to social media to try to shout Sabalenka down, plenty more were on her side, pointing out that more star athletes need to be emboldened to voice their opinions on the matter, especially for something as rooted in common sense as "men shouldn't play women's sports."

As someone on X mentioned, it's amazing that we even need to be having these conversations, let alone heaping praise on people for saying something that less than two decades ago was a nearly universally accepted fact.

Anyone pointing out that there are no biological men competing in women's professional tennis is either being intentionally obtuse or they're missing the forest for the trees so badly they should be considered legally blind.

Biological males are infiltrating girls' sports, specifically at the youth and high school level, at remarkably high levels.

Several of my OutKick coworkers have even documented a few of these cases.

The WTA is just doing what should be done in this situation: being proactive.

And these leftists know exactly what they are doing, too.

It's why people like West Wilson will say that there aren't any biological males in the WNBA but will conveniently leave out youth and high school sports, all the while a WNBA coach wears a shirt that says "Trans Kids Belong."

As the goalposts continue to move, sane people continue to scratch their heads.

Thankfully, stars like Sabalenka and Sophie Cunningham have the courage to speak out, and hopefully more will follow their lead.
