Smiling Indiana boy, 5, mysteriously dies during sleepover at friend's house as parents beg for answers

Published: 21:26, 7 June 2026 | Updated: 21:36, 7 June 2026 The parents of a 5-year-old boy from Indiana are left scrambling for answers after their young son mysteriously died during a routine sleepover at a friend's house.   Jagger Wing died on May 30 while staying at a family friend's house in Newburgh, according to his obituary. Damon, 31, and Alexandria Wing, 29, the boy's parents, spoke to News 14 about the loss of their son and how they are searching for answers. The parents said everything was normal until they received a call that Jagger was unresponsive. 'He had played hard outside,' said Alexandria. 'He was with his friends. He was staying the night at a friend's house when it happened.' 'My best friend of 17 years and I can't imagine that feeling and situation,' the grieving mother said.  Jagger was rushed to Gateway Hospital, where he later died, according to the outlet. Jagger Wing, 5, died on May 30 while staying at a family friend's house in Newburgh, Indiana  Damon and Alexandria Wing, the boy's parents, told News 14 how they are searching for answers The parents added that doctors are still searching for what may have caused his death and are specifically checking for heart conditions. 'We do have a family history of cardiac issues, and this is where I want to just express knowing family histories and genetic testing and how important that can be to prevent anything,' said the mother. 'We were told that there's nothing that could have prevented this, but we also don't even know what happened.' The parents told the outlet that they have since had their daughters checked for any heart conditions and have not found any abnormalities. A GoFundMe has been set up to help cover medical bills, funeral costs, and everyday expenses in support of the Wing family.  'Jagger was a beautiful, energetic, loving, caring, and pure soul that was taken too soon,' reads the fundraiser. 'He was an amazing brother to an older sister and a younger sister. His presence brought joy and light to everyone around him, and his memory will forever be cherished by his parents, siblings, family, and friends.' 'He had played hard outside,' said Jagger's mother. 'He was with his friends. He was staying the night at a friend's house when it happened. My best friend of 17 years and I can't imagine that feeling and situation. 'I hate that I wasn't there' (Jagger pictured with his father Damon)  The GoFundMe has raised more than $20,000 at the time of this report. Jagger's obituary noted that he was a 'sweet, kind, caring, energetic and enthusiastic boy' and that 'There was not a friend he could not make.' The mother told the outlet that Jagger was getting ready to start kindergarten in August. According to his obituary, a funeral for Jagger will be held on Wednesday.
