Sleepless neighbours tell of 'mayhem' misery caused by dozens of teenagers attending Airbnb house parties

Published: 18:48, 4 April 2026 | Updated: 18:57, 4 April 2026 Exhausted residents have described their lives as a 'living nightmare' as they endure constant mayhem and sleepless nights fueled by a wave of rowdy, teenage-led Airbnb house parties in their once quiet neighbourhood.  Residents living in and around Broomhill Road, in Bulwell, say they have experienced sleepless nights and intimidation during the Saturday night bashes. One family living next door said they did not feel safe and are effectively blocked in during the 'anxiety-inducing' events. Videos of the parties show large groups gathering inside and outside the terrace house, which is available to rent on booking sites such as Booking.com and Airbnb. Police were called to disperse four parties in late 2025, before the landlord tightened the vetting around guests who tried booking any of the three rooms, which are available for less than £50 a night. Realwood Homes, which manages the property, said members of the group had managed to book twice, but were only able to hold the others after stealing a key. Things had quietened down this year, but on Saturday, March 21, teenagers returned and tried to enter the property before holding a party outside in the street, which was broken up by officers. A family of three who live next door said they had experienced 'loads of problems' on party nights, during which attendees blare music, bang on the walls and peek through the windows. Realwood Homes, the property's management company, claimed the group successfully bypassed booking restrictions twice, further alleging that subsequent unauthorised gatherings were only made possible after the teenagers stole a key A neighbouring family reported feeling unsafe and 'effectively trapped' in their own home during the 'anxiety-inducing' parties, which they claim have left them feeling vulnerable and distressed Scott Piatkowski, 18, said: 'I don't really feel safe. They pour outside onto the street, into the back garden and all sorts. 'There's no way we could get out of the house if there's an emergency. The student, whose family have lived there for nine years, said it was quite 'anxiety inducing', adding: 'We didn't think too much about it the first time, the second time we got more anxious and the third time we were quite upset because we couldn't sleep. 'We're pretty sure we heard banging on our door at one point.' Michelle Varney, who lives nearby, said she initially 'wasn't too bothered' by the parties but now believes the landlord and authorities should do everything they can to shut them down. 'They're using a house specifically to book it out for a party which annoys the neighbours with the noise and set off fireworks. 'They forget they're in the community with elderly neighbours who are upset and worried. It's not a suitable place to be having a party.' Ms Varney, a civil servant who has lived in the area for six years, said the main issue was the noise. 'The youths are hanging around causing mayhem. It's fine for the people who go to the parties and leave but it's us that have got to deal with the aftermath. 'I think it should be shut down, the owner should be contacted.' Okechukwu Nsirim, a director at Realwood Homes, said only two guests were booked in on the night when the first party took place last year. 'But they came with a group of young people and we called the police,' she said. Michelle Varney (pictured) said she now believes the landlord and authorities should do everything they can to shut them down 'We don't know who's booking the house. They booked as adults and you can see that they're teenagers.' Ms Nsirim said she was forced to get the locks changed after the guests stole a key to the house. She said the company now checks in guests themselves to make sure the same people do not return. 'They never book with their own name. We can only try as much as we can to control people who enter the house. 'This year it hasn't happened but last week they tried to come in again and partied in the street.' The new check-in process was also successful on October 27, she said, and the guests were refunded, however they remained in the area to party in the street. Footage captured by a neighbour shows a large group stood outside the property, confronting a man who was staying in another of the rooms. Darren Wheater-Lowe, who lives opposite the house with his wife and two children, said it was 'quite intimidating when there are massive groups stood there'. 'It's just antisocial behaviour and intimidation. There's such a massive number,' said the 52-year-old. 'They can come and do what they want, shout what they want, intimidate people and go away and do it all again.' Airbnb announced last December that it was launching heightened anti-party technology in time for New Year's Eve - to prevent 'disruptive' parties. The technology, powered by machine learning, assesses hundreds of signals to identify bookings that may be at a higher risk for a disruptive party. It also aims to stop those reservations from being made. Instead, these bookings are either blocked entirely from proceeding or the guest is redirected to alternative listings on the platform, such as a private room or hotel room. Nottinghamshire Police said officers had given advice to the landlord and would consider further measures if the parties continue. 'We understand the concerns raised by residents relating to house parties at this address and have spoken to the landlord about the issues, for which he was given advice,' said PS Katie Taylor. 'We will look at taking other measures if this behaviour continues.... We will continue to monitor the situation and we would encourage anyone who has any concerns around ASB to approach one of our officers, or report it to us by calling 101, so that we can take action.'
