• Armed men target multiple houses, kill five civilians; attackers use guns and grenades, set houses, vehicles on fire
• One person killed, 12 including police personnel injured in Quetta attacks

GWADAR/QUETTA: Eleven people, including six alleged terrorists, were killed in attacks on houses in Panjgur, while one person was killed and 12 others — including police and security personnel — were injured in firing and grenade attacks in different areas of Quetta late on Sunday evening, officials said.

Police officials said that a group of unknown armed men attacked the house of Arshad Baloch in the Khuda-e-Abadan area of Panjgur. The attackers hurled hand grenades and opened indiscriminate fire, killing three people present in the house. They also set three rooms on fire and damaged the building.

The armed men also attacked three more houses in the Sarawan and Garmakan areas of Panjgur at around the same time, killing two more people and injuring two others. They also set at least six cars parked outside the targeted houses on fire.

Deputy Inspector General of Police, Makran Range, Imran Qureshi, confirmed the attacks and said that armed men had targeted multiple houses.

“In these attacks, five people were killed and two others injured in different areas of Panjgur. During retaliation and an operation launched by police and Frontier Corps, six armed attackers were killed,” he said, adding that the bodies of the attackers were shifted to the District Hospital Panjgur.

Police said heavy exchange of fire between the attackers and security forces continued for several hours, creating panic in Panjgur town.

Grenade attacks and shooting in Quetta

Meanwhile, one person was killed and 12 others, including police personnel and civilians, were injured in grenade attacks and firing in different areas of the provincial capital, Quetta.

Officials said that a group of unknown armed men riding motorcycles attacked a security post on Sariab Road, opening fire and attempting to enter the premises. However, security forces responded immediately, returning fire and foiling the attempt.

The exchange of fire continued for about half an hour. During the attack, a passerby was killed and 11 others were injured in the Sariab Road area. The attackers later fled the scene.

In another incident, an armed group attacked a police station in the Aghbarg area of Noshahr, on the outskirts of Quetta. They hurled a grenade at the gate and opened fire. Police personnel present at the station retaliated, and after a heavy exchange of fire, the attackers escaped. One police constable, Muhammad Abbas, was injured in the grenade attack and shifted to hospital.

Sabotage attempts in Mastung, Kalat

In the 13-mile area of Mastung district, an armed man blew up a small railway bridge on the main railway line by planting explosives underneath it.

Police also foiled an attempt to blow up a bridge on the Quetta-Karachi National Highway in the Surab area of Kalat division.

“Eight explosive-laden drums were recovered from beneath the bridge,” police officials said, adding that around 320kg of explosives had been planted in the drums.
