Six people have been stabbed in the hours after Arsenal's Premier League title parade, the Metropolitan Police has confirmed.

Around one million supporters gathered in the streets surrounding the Emirates Stadium to celebrate the club's title success, which came just hours after their Champions League final defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in Budapest.

The Metropolitan Police deployed over 500 officers to manage the huge crowds, with 24 arrests made.

Ten individuals were arrested on suspicion of attacking police officers, with one suspect also accused of directing racist abuse at officers.

Two officers sustained injuries during the disorder, with one having a slash wound to their hand while another was struck on the head by an object hurled from the crowd.

Four police vans parked on Theberton Street in Islington were left damaged, suffering broken lights and dents.

Others were arrested for a range of charges, including sexual assault, grievous bodily harm, possession of class C drugs, carrying a knife, drunk and disorderly behaviour, obstructing police, affray, and breaching a dispersal order.

The London Fire Brigade also issued warnings to fans against climbing onto rooftops after rescuing 75 supporters who had become stranded at height.

One man in his twenties was rushed to hospital in a life-threatening condition, though medical staff have since stabilised him.

Officers were given extra stop-and-search powers overnight.

Commander Stuart Bell, who led Scotland Yard's public order operation for the parade, said: "I would like to thank the vast majority of the hundreds of thousands of Arsenal supporters who attended the day to celebrate safely and responsibly.

"There was a police presence along the route throughout the event, supporting event organisers and stewarding operations.

"However, we had been clear that violence and other criminality would not be tolerated, and unfortunately, there were pockets of anti-social behaviour and incidents where officers needed to intervene, including assaults on their colleagues.

"As the evening progressed and the majority of the crowds made their way home, there was sadly further violence, including gang-related incidents.

"Officers were swiftly on scene to each stabbing, and investigations are ongoing."

Chief Superintendent Jason Stewart, who leads policing in Islington, said on Monday: "This, of course, was a huge and significant event for our community and Arsenal fans more widely, and we worked closely with the local authority and other partners to plan for the event and then throughout the day.

"Our officers are back out on patrol today to provide visible reassurance, and our investigation teams are working hard to identify offenders and bring them to justice.

"We stand with our local communities against violence."
