Sindh to expand pink scooter scheme for women to Hyderabad

Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced on Saturday plans to distribute pink scooters to women in Hyderabad following a successful rollout in Sukkur, According to a statement, the minister said that the scheme aimed to empower women by enhancing mobility and independence, noting that, in addition to free scooters, beneficiaries were also being provided with driving licences, helmets, and formal training. He said, "Women’s empowerment and confidence-building remain a top priority for the Sindh government". Memon added that the People's Bus Service network was also being expanded beyond Sukkur and Shikarpur, with new routes to be launched soon between Khairpur and Rohri, as well as Khairpur and Ranipur. In Hyderabad, he said, the service would begin operations from Kohsar to Hyder Chowk and Hyderabad–Tando Allahyar routes in the near future. According to the statement, Memon said, "the objective of these initiatives is to provide affordable, quality, and comfortable transport facilities to the public". He added that the Sindh government was introducing projects designed to directly benefit the general public, particularly women, young people, and the working class. Read: Free scooters distributed among women A day earlier, a ceremony to distribute free scooters among the women of Sukkur was held at a local hall by the Transport and Mass Transit Department of the Government of Sindh. While addressing the ceremony, Memon said, "Today is an important day. If one looks at the history of Pakistan, the Pakistan Peoples Party has carried out the most significant work for women's empowerment". Memon added that in the past, women in society were often deprived of identity cards, but after the launch of this programme, people began obtaining ID cards for their sisters, daughters, and mothers. He further stated that Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has initiated one of the largest housing projects in history, under which the Sindh government is building houses for 2.1 million families free of cost.
