Agadir – The 18th edition of the International Agricultural Show in Morocco (SIAM) welcomed more than 1.13 million visitors during its nine day run in Meknes, cementing the event’s standing as one of Africa’s largest agricultural gatherings.

Speaking on Tuesday, SIAM Commissioner General Kamal Hidane said the exhibition, held from April 20 to 28, attracted 1,136,952 visitors.

Organized around the theme “Sustainability of animal production and food sovereignty,” this year’s edition brought together 1,590 exhibitors from 76 countries.

The event also featured 360 foreign exhibitors and 538 cooperatives, highlighting the growing international and local engagement with Morocco’s agricultural sector.

Hidane noted that these participation figures confirm SIAM’s status as a major national, continental, and international platform for advancing agriculture and strengthening agricultural value chains.

This year’s guest of honor, Portugal, played a prominent role throughout the exhibition. According to organizers, the partnership helped expand discussions on agricultural innovation, sustainability, research, and food security while deepening cooperation between Morocco and Portugal.

The event notably saw strong participation from both high-ranking Moroccan government officials and high-level international delegations. Ahmed El Bouari, Morocco’s Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests, attended alongside Moroccan and foreign representatives involved in discussions on climate adaptation, livestock production, digital transformation in agriculture, financial inclusion, and the promotion of local products.

Over the course of the exhibition, panels and professional meetings focused heavily on food sovereignty and the resilience of agricultural systems amid mounting climate pressures and global market uncertainty.

These discussions come as Morocco continues to accelerate investments in water management, desalination, sustainable farming, and agricultural modernization in response to recurring water stress.

Hidane extended his gratitude to institutional partners, exhibitors, professional organizations, delegations, and media representatives for contributing to the success of the event. He said the collective mobilization around SIAM continues to strengthen its role as a strategic platform supporting Morocco’s agricultural development and food security ambitions.
