New details have emerged in the case of Jamey Carney, a 43-year-old American mother who was killed in her home in Ireland last month.

Ms Carney was found dead at her house in Killarney, County Kerry, on July 7 by her 13-year-old daughter Michaela, who discovered the body after returning from a sleepover to find the place unusually quiet.

Ms Carney's remains were hidden beneath a duvet in her bedroom.

A post-mortem determined she had died from suffocation, with reports suggesting she was also struck repeatedly with a heavy toilet cistern lid.

Garda detectives swiftly identified her boyfriend, Ahmad Al-Saqar, a 28-year-old Jordanian asylum seeker, as "a person of interest" in the killing.

Now, it has emerged that the 43-year-old received a substantial inheritance from her father in the months before her killing.

Court filings reveal the gross value of James Carney's estate came to around $427,000 (£316,000) when he died.

Further reports indicate Jamey inherited around $1million from her father, which allowed her to move from a modest two-bedroom property to a larger, more prestigious home.

Illegal migrant Al-Saqar, Ms Carney’s fiance, left Ireland for Jordan - the same place from where he had "claimed asylum" - in the immediate aftermath of the alleged murder.

Ms Carney had told a friend that Al-Saqar had asked her for €5,000 (£4,300) just a week before she was killed.

He had also claimed to his Muslim friends the pair had wed in a religious ceremony in a mosque.

Ms Carney had long celebrated her Irish heritage and relocated from the US to Killarney five years ago with her young daughter.

She quickly established herself in the picturesque Kerry town, building a new career and earning a reputation for generosity.

She was vocal about her left-wing politics, including advocacy for Palestine, before she met Al-Saqar - 15 years her junior - at local pro-Gaza marches.

Detectives found evidence that Al-Saqar fled Killarney in the early hours of July 7, before Ms Carney's body was discovered.

CCTV footage showed him boarding a Green Coach at 4.30am to Dublin, then taking a taxi to Dublin Airport.

He caught a Turkish Airlines flight to Istanbul at 10.40am with a one-way ticket.

From there, he is believed to have reached Jordan before Interpol could be alerted to watch for him.

Jordan's Public Security Directorate subsequently traced and arrested him.

UK Border

He remains in custody, but his legal status is uncertain as Ireland has no extradition treaty with Jordan.

Two Garda officers have visited the country to liaise with Jordanian authorities in what appears to be an effort to secure a voluntary transfer back to Ireland.

Al-Saqar is thought to have entered Ireland by exploiting a short-lived UK immigration scheme that allowed Jordanians to purchase a £10 online travel authorisation visa.

This enabled him to travel to Northern Ireland and then cross the border to Dublin, where he claimed asylum in June 2024.

His initial claim was rejected, but he was granted subsidiary protection on appeal.
