2026WashingtonSiyaset, Ekonomi ve Toplum Araştırmaları Vakfı Washington Ofisi (SETA DC) tarafından düzenlenen panele katılan uzmanlar, 7-8 Temmuz 2026'da Ankara'da düzenlenecek NATO Zirvesi'ni değerlendirdi. Panele katılan konuşmacılar, uluslararası dönüşümün yaşandığı bir dönemde NATO Zirvesi'nin Türkiye'de gerçekleştirileceğine ve Ankara'nın bu süreçteki kritik rolüne değindi. SETA DC Direktörü Kadir Üstün tarafından yönetilen "NATO'nun Yeni Jeopolitiğinin Merkezinde Türk-Amerikan İttifakı" başlıklı panelde konuşan Cumhurbaşkanı Başdanışmanı Erhan, kritik bir dönemdeki Türk-Amerikan ilişkilerinin önemine dikkati çekti. İkili ilişkilerin tarihi sürecini anlatan ve bu zeminin ilişkilerin temelini oluşturduğuna işaret eden Erhan, "1950'lerin başındaki koşullarda olduğu gibi, ABD ve Türkiye bugünkü yeni dönüşüm döneminde öncü rol oynayacak." dedi. Ankara Zirvesi'nin Türk-Amerikan ilişkilerinin geleceğine çok olumlu katkılar yapacağına inandığını belirten Erhan, "Bu NATO Zirvesi ile önümüzdeki parlak geleceğin ilk adımlarına tanıklık edeceğiz." değerlendirmesinde bulundu. Eski ABD'nin Ankara Büyükelçisi ve Washington Enstitüsü kıdemli araştırmacısı James Jeffrey de Türkiye'nin son yıllarda karşılaşılan her büyük güvenlik sorununda "belirleyici" bir rol oynadığını söyledi. Jeffrey, "Türkiye, ABD ile birlikte, Ukrayna'dan Kafkasya'ya, Karadeniz'e, Balkanlar'a ve Orta Doğu'ya kadar son birkaç yıldır yaşanan tüm büyük güvenlik meselelerinde belirleyici bir rol oynadı." şeklinde konuştu. "Türkiye, NATO alanını güvence altına almak için en az ABD kadar çaba sarf etti. Bu alan, Türkiye'nin sınırları nedeniyle doğal olarak Orta Doğu'ya kadar uzanıyor." diyen Jeffrey, Ankara Zirvesi'nin hem ABD hem de Türkiye için büyük fırsatlar sunan önemli bir buluşma anlamına geldiğini ifade etti. Atlantic Council Kıdemli Araştırmacısı Rich Outzen de ABD ile Türkiye arasındaki savunma sanayi alanındaki işbirliğine dikkati çekti. Denizcilik ve gemi inşası, insansız hava araçları ve yapay zeka alanlarındaki işbirliğine atıfta bulunan Outzen, "Yeni paradigma şudur: Türkiye, ABD’li şirketlerin satın almak isteyeceği kadar kaliteli ürünler üretiyor." dedi. Outzen, iki ülkenin NATO müttefiklerinin çok azının sahip olduğu bir yetkinliği paylaştığının altını çizerek, "Savaş deneyimi, endüstriyel kapasite ve bunları sahaya aktaracak mühendislik kapasitesinin birleşimi, elde edilmesi oldukça zor bir şeydir." değerlendirmesini yaptı. ABD ve Türkiye'yi "İttifak için gerçek sert güç caydırıcılığının ve kapasitesinin motorları" olarak nitelendiren Outzen, iki ülke arasında savunma sanayi alanında daha gidilecek çok yol olduğunu belirtti. Öte yandan Hazar Politika Merkezi Yönetim Kurulu Üyesi Roger Kangas da Ankara zirvesinin NATO'nun küresel rolüyle ilgili temel yeteneklere yeniden odaklanmasına yardımcı olabileceğini söyledi. Kangas, Türkiye'nin görüş ayrılığına düşen müttefikler arasında bir köprü görevi görmesi gerekebileceğini dile getirerek, "Türkiye, odadaki sorumlu yetişkin rolünü üstlenmek ve bu çatışan tarafları bir araya getirmek zorunda kalabilir." dedi. Türkiye, 7-8 Temmuz tarihlerinde Ankara'da düzenlenecek NATO Zirvesi ile 2004'te İstanbul'da yapılan zirvenin ardından ikinci kez bir NATO zirvesine ev sahipliği yapacak.
