Scottie Scheffler sends message to Scottish fans as announcement made
Scottie Scheffler has committed to competing at this year's Genesis Scottish Open, organisers revealed on Wednesday.
The American, currently ranked first in the world, arrives in strong form following a runner-up finish at the Cadillac Championship.
"I always enjoy coming to the Genesis Scottish Open and taking on the challenge of links-style golf as part of an exciting couple of weeks in the UK. The tournament always has a strong field, and the Scottish fans help to make it a fun week," Scheffler said in a statement.
The announcement came as the 29-year-old opted to skip the Truist Championship ahead of next week's PGA Championship.
Scheffler's relationship with the Scottish event has been a journey of steady improvement since his debut four years ago.
His first appearance in 2022 proved challenging, with the Texan failing to make the weekend cut after posting a five-over-par total across his opening two rounds.

The following year brought a significant turnaround, as he secured a share of third place at the tournament, finishing five strokes adrift of champion Rory McIlroy.
The world number one was absent from the 2024 edition, choosing not to defend his strong showing from the previous summer.

Scheffler returned to the Scottish links in 2025, recording another top-ten result with a tied eighth-place finish, ending the week six shots behind inaugural champion Chris Gotterup.
The commitment marks the four-time major winner's third appearance at the event in four years, underlining his appreciation for the traditional coastal courses that define British summer golf.
Tournament officials highlighted the significance of securing the world's top-ranked player, with the event consistently attracting elite fields as part of the build-up to The Open Championship.
Scheffler's presence will add considerable star power to what organisers describe as an already competitive lineup.

Meanwhile, the golf star's immediate focus will be on this month's PGA Championship.
Having missed out on Masters glory to McIlroy, he'll be eager to topple his rival when that competition takes place later this month.
Scheffler won the PGA Championship last year.
Should history repeat itself, he'll move to within one major of McIlroy with five to his name.
