Known as Jack, Mr Bell was outside with his dog Charlie when the pair were hit by a red Maserati Quattroporte in Broughty Ferry, Dundee. His wife Teresa is understood to have tried to help the 74-year-old until the emergency services arrived but Mr Bell was pronounced dead at the scene as was his pet. Tragedy unfolded at around 1pm on Monday when the luxury vehicle, which had allegedly been stolen, crashed into the property. It is believed the vehicle trapped the OAP against a house. Police said they have arrested a 55-year-old man in connection with the incident. Fraser Garden, of no fixed abode, made no plea when he appeared at Dundee Sheriff Court on Tuesday accused of causing death by dangerous driving, car theft and attempting to pervert the course of justice, among other charges. Mr Bell’s family have asked for privacy following their loss. Sergeant David Farr, of Tayside Road Policing, said: ‘Our thoughts are with the family of the man who died.’ He also appealed for anyone who can help the police investigation to contact the police. Brian Ogilvie wrote: ‘This has really shaken our community. An innocent man has lost his life in tragic circumstances, and it’s heartbreaking to think it happened so close to home. ‘My thoughts are with John “Jack” Bell’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.
