By WILKO MARTÍNEZ-CACHERO, US REPORTER Published: 00:53, 7 May 2026 | Updated: 00:53, 7 May 2026 A Women's World Cup soccer player allegedly went to a 14–year–old's home several times a week to rape the teenager and encouraged him to send sexually explicit images when they were apart, according to a probable cause statement obtained by the Daily Mail. Oteta Kristina Kitiona, now 20, is accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting the minor in Utah over a six month period in 2024 – when she was 19 years old and her alleged victim was five years younger.  The boy alleged Kitiona would come to his house 'two to three times a week' to sexually abuse him, per the probable cause statement signed by a Bluffdale Police Department detective and filed Tuesday.  The alleged victim, identified in court documents only as 'DL' and whom the Daily Mail is not naming, claimed this continued from June until October 2024, when Kitiona left Utah to attend Bellevue College in Washington.  But the abuse is alleged to have resumed after she returned to Salt Lake City in November, when Kitiona would again 'come to his house three times a week and they would have sex,' per the probable cause statement.  The alleged victim was below the age of consent in Utah, which is 18, and around the period of the charged offences was still in braces and was profiled as being a slight 5'9 and weighing just 135 pounds. The 150–pound Kitiona, meanwhile, played for the Samoan national women's soccer team as part of its 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup qualifying campaign. The charges were filed after her debut trio of games starting on February 27, when she played in Samoa's 8–0 loss against New Zealand, getting substituted off the pitch in the 66th minute. She then played 62 minutes in a 1–0 loss to American Samoa on March 2. Finally, Kitiona came off the bench in the 68th minute as Samoa defeated the Solomon Islands 2–1 at the Solomon Islands' National Stadium, according to FIFA. The charges against Kitiona were filed in the Third District Court in the County of Salt Lake City on May 5, exactly two months after Samoa's failed World Cup bid. Oteta Kristina Kitiona was accused by authorities of repeatedly 'engaging in sexual activties' with a 14–year–old minor when she was 19 years old Kitiona featured for the Samoan national women's soccer team during its 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup qualifying campaign, playing as recently as March Kitiona, now 20, has been charged with distributing material harmful to a minor, a third–degree felony, and three counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor while under the age of 21 She is accused of distributing material harmful to a minor, a third–degree felony, and three counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor while under the age of 21. Of the latter counts, one is also a third–degree felony and the other two are class A misdemeanors. All of the alleged crimes were listed as having happened on June 24, 2024. The minor claimed he and Kitiona 'entered into a relationship' around May or June of that year. He alleged Kitiona would send him nude photos where you could see 'everything,' per the probable cause statement. She was 'head to toe clean, naked in both pictures and videos,' DL claimed, adding that photos showed Kitiona in various sexually explicit poses, per the probable cause statement.  Kitiona allegedly asked DL to send photos back while he was in the shower, which he  told police he did. The charges against Kitiona were filed on May 5, exactly two months after Samoa's failed Women's World Cup bid Kitiona and the minor allegedly 'entered into a relationship' around May or June 2024, which turned sexual by the end of the latter month, according to the probable cause statement A probable cause statement by a Bluffdale Police Department detective described how the minor reported Kitiona's alleged sexual abuse (Picture of Bluffdale, UT) On the same day that the declaration of probable cause regarding Kitiona's case was filed, a pretrial no–contact order was also proposed. Kitiona would not be allowed to 'harass, telephone, contact or otherwise communicate directly or indirectly' with the minor. That would include in–person means, as well as digital communication. She would also be ordered to stay away from the boy's home and school. Kitiona was not booked into jail, according to court records. A summons was issued for her to appear before a magistrate at Salt Lake City's Third District Court. She is currently set to appear at the courthouse at 8.30am on June 6, according to a legal filing. Kitiona's alleged crimes were listed as having happened on June 24, 2024, according to court documents Kitiona allegedly sent the minor photos in which she was 'head to toe clean, naked in both pictures and videos,' according to legal documents  Kitiona has been summoned to appear before a magistrate at Salt Lake City's Third District Court (pictured), but a date and time was not immediately listed In Utah, the age of consent is 18. However, state law generally lessens the level of offense when the accused is under 21, like Kitiona, and the minor is between 14 and 16. Kitiona's charges noted that 'the defendant was less than four years older than the minor at the time the sexual activity occurred.' The Daily Mail has reached out to Kitiona and Salt Lake County DA Sim Gill's office for comment. A request for comment to Kitiona's family went unanswered. An attorney was not listed for Kitiona, according to Salt Lake County District Court filings. No comments have so far been submitted.
