Kirby Lee / Imagn Images Share article118The San Francisco 49ers enter the second day of the 2026 NFL Draft with the first pick of Round 2, after trading back twice on Thursday night to move out of the first round entirely. The 49ers entered the three-day event with only six picks but now have seven. First, they traded back three spots with the Dolphins, sending Nos. 27 and 138 to Miami in exchange for Nos. 30 and 90. Then they sent No. 30 to the New York Jets in exchange for Nos. 33 — which opens Round 2 — and 179. The Niners now have one pick each in Rounds 3 and 5 after entering with no picks in either round. They gave up one of their four fourth-round picks in the process. Whenever they do pick, the 49ers can inject some youth from the draft, preferably on the defensive and offensive lines and at receiver. General manager John Lynch said it’s a deep draft at those positions. It would be a shock if the 49ers didn’t add a pass rusher soon, given it’s their most glaring need. Fans would love the 49ers to address the offensive line, but it seems as if they will probably wait to add a guard or tackle prospect until Day 3. Meanwhile, the 49ers have added a receiver in eight of nine drafts under this regime, and Lynch and Kyle Shanahan could grab one earlier than you might think if they fall in love. Keep coming back here throughout the draft for grades and analysis of each 49ers pick. No. 90 (from Texans via Dolphins) No. 179 (compensatory from Jets) Spot the pattern.
