Sadiq Khan has spent tens of thousands in taxpayer cash to hire "experienced and diverse individuals" to instruct Metropolitan Police.

The Mayor of London is now hiring three new members of the London Policing Board (LPB).

The board comprises 13 members who meet just 10 times a year to improve public trust in the police.

"This is a high-profile opportunity to influence the future of policing in one of the world’s most diverse cities and ensure services better reflect and serve all Londoners," the job application reads.

The Mayor's Office for Policing and Crime (Mopac) is now recruiting individuals with "senior-level experience and expertise" in three areas.

Listed first is Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI).

"We are looking for someone who has implemented EDI with proven positive outcomes into an organisation with a low maturity level regarding positive culture," it continued.

Mopac is now also looking for people with expertise in "financial strategy and performance" and "technology".

The job opening, which closes on August 16, says members will "help drive lasting cultural change" in the Met Police.

Members of the board receive £15,000 a year each, for a total of £45,000, and serve three year terms.

The board as a whole costs taxpayers £195.000 annually.

Current board members include academics, former police officers and local Government representatives.

Stuart Lawrence an EDI activist, former Harrow borough commander Dal Babu, Brent councillor Muhammad Butt and Kaya Comer-Schwartz, Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime, are a few of the current board members.

Interviews for the LPB take place in September and October.

The LPB was created after Baroness Casey's review into the Met Police in 2023.

Baroness Casey found the force to lack "transparency and scrutiny", and called for the board to be created to "drive forward the changes called for in this review".

Her scathing report found the Met Police to be a "boy's club", rife with "institutional racism, sexism and homophobia".

Last week, a HM Inspectorate report found the Met Police made "significant efforts" to improve workforce culture, but needed to ensure the "right people" joined and remained.

Met Police Commissioner Mark Rowley vowed to sack officers who were unfit to serve - with 1,500 officers now rooted out of the force.

"It demonstrates the commitment and priority that Sir Mark Rowley has placed on raising standards and changing the cultures and behaviours that have been evident and widely reported on... it's pleasing to see the impact of that that," HM inspector Lee Freeman said.
