A Ryanair flight to Leeds Bradford Airport was forced to divert mid-air to Bristol after an emergency on board saw a woman fall ill.

The plane set off from Malaga, Spain, on Tuesday at 10.50pm and was due to arrive in Leeds on Wednesday at 12.50am.

A woman on board reportedly collapsed as the plane passed over France, arriving in Bristol 14 minutes later after a spontaneous diversion.

Images shared online depict ambulance crews outside the plane at Bristol Airport to respond to the emergency.

One passenger told Leeds Live the flight was grounded for some 90 minutes before it took off again at 12.45am, arriving at its intended destination in Leeds at around 2.30am.

The passenger said Ryanair staff were "very professional", but you could hear the "panic in their voices".

He added how the experience was "tiring" for all those on the flight.

The passenger said: "It was a little worrying as it was a night flight, so very peaceful, so that was the last thing to expect.
