Ryanair Could Select Morocco as Possible Location for Engine Maintenance Facility
Rabat – Ryanair is reviewing Morocco’s potential as one of its possible locations for aircraft engine maintenance, repair, and overhaul, also known as MRO.
Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary listed Morocco among the potential candidates. He made his remarks in a statement to Aviation Week in Vienna on Tuesday.
“We are in active negotiations with six locations for engine MRO facilities,” the Ryanair CEO said.
He added that Spain, Italy, the Baltic states, Northern Ireland, and Morocco are among the possible locations for the airline’s MRO.
“These are the most likely locations for our two-engine MRO sites. We have to make a decision on the first location in a couple of months,” he said.
Ryanair is planning to invest $800 million in both sites.
The airline also emphasized Morocco’s position as one of its fastest-growing markets.
The carrier is among the leading low-cost airlines, offering flights to Morocco from different destinations.
Aware of Morocco’s strategic position, Ryanair has been renewing its commitment to strengthening its presence in the North African country.
Last year, the company announced the opening of its fifth Moroccan base in Rabat, marking a $200 million investment. Ryanair said the base will launch in April 2026.
Ryanair’s total investment in Morocco now exceeds $1.6 billion in aircraft, supporting over 8,500 direct and indirect jobs across 13 cities, including Rabat, Marrakech, Fez, Agadir, Tetouan, Essaouira, Dakhla, and Nador.
The low-cost carrier continues to emphasize commitment to strengthen its presence in Morocco, which offers tremendous opportunities as the country prepares to host major sporting events in the coming years, including the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
“Rabat will become Ryanair’s fifth Moroccan base – further enhancing low-fare connectivity across the Kingdom in advance of its co-hosting of the 2030 World Cup,” the company said in a statement last year, adding that its investment in the Rabat base will also create over 800 local jobs, including 60 highly paid jobs for pilots and cabin crew.
