Russia develops new cartridge with lead-free bullet — Rostec

MOSCOW, April 3. /TASS/. Russia’s state tech corporation Rostec has developed a new cartridge for hunting and sport, the Match 160. The ammunition will extend the line of IGLA import-substituting cartridges, the state corporation announced. "The Rostec State Corporation has developed and introduced a new .308Win (7.62x51 mm) cartridge for hunting and sport - the Match 160. This ammunition will expand the IGLA range of cartridges, which replace products from foreign manufacturers that have withdrawn from the Russian market," Rostec said. The bullet weighs 160 grains (10.4 grams) and is 33.5 mm long. As a result, the Match 160 features improved accuracy, Rostec noted. Moreover, the bullet is lead-free, which protects the shooter’s health during training at indoor shooting ranges. "The Rostec State Corporation has been mass-producing IGLA cartridges for civilian weapons for several years. These cartridges have successfully replaced products from foreign manufacturers that have withdrawn from the Russian market in a wide variety of categories. These include cartridges for both smoothbore shotguns and rifled small arms. The characteristics of these domestically produced cartridges fully comply with international standards. In addition, anti-drone cartridges with high-hardness pellets are produced under this brand," Rostec noted. The IGLA training cartridges, which help Russian shooters regularly win international shooting championships, are also produced. All components of the Match 160 cartridge — the bullet, case, primer, and propellant powder — are manufactured in Russia from domestically produced raw materials. The product can also be used for target shooting. Previously, cartridges with expanding .308Win caliber bullets were marketed under the IGLA brand. These are the SP 150, Shakal 141" and Shakal 160 cartridges, which feature predictable expanding bullets.
