Rupert Lowe's family company has a royal warrant, despite the Restore Britain leader's refusal to confirm whether King Charles is a white Briton earlier this week.

Lowe & Oliver, an electrical contracting business in which the Great Yarmouth MP serves as a director, was appointed a royal warrant holder by the King in 2025.

The company proudly declares on its website that the distinction is "coveted" and that it "is extremely proud to be entitled to display the words, 'By Appointment to His Majesty the King'. What better recommendation could there be?"

Additionally, when receiving the award, fellow director Fred Lowe called it a "prestigious honour", while chairman Paul Tuson said it was the "perfect finish to another successful year".

However, during an appearance on BBC Radio on Thursday, Mr Lowe refused on multiple occasions to acknowledge the monarch's ethnicity, instead suggesting there were "different interpretations" of the matter.

Presenter Nick Robinson drew Mr Lowe's attention to the fact that Prince Philip, the King's father, was born on the Greek island of Corfu, meaning Charles himself would fall outside that definition.

"Are you aware that, by the definitions used in that particular report, King Charles is not a white Briton? Do you think he is a white Briton?" Mr Robinson asked.

"Well, many people have different interpretations of that, Nick. I mean, we can split hairs," Mr Lowe replied.

Pressed a second time, the Restore Britain leader said: "The experience of what we’re talking about is quite clear and I think most British people, if you speak to them, would agree."

He also claimed that "by 2063, white British people will be a minority on current trends."

When Mr Robinson told him he was avoiding the question, Mr Lowe insisted otherwise.

Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams has since demanded that Lowe & Oliver be stripped of its prestigious appointment.

"Holding a royal warrant is a huge privilege; it gives a firm a certain responsibility and cachet which they can display and be proud of," Mr Fitzwilliams told The Telegraph.

"It's therefore disgraceful for someone to make comments about the King that are quite so ridiculous. I think the company's warrant should definitely be removed if the King is being insulted in that way, and the Palace may look to do that."

Warrants of this kind are bestowed as formal recognition upon businesses that have consistently provided goods or services to the royal household.

Lowe & Oliver was established by Mr Lowe's grandfather and has carried out electrical work at some of Britain's most iconic buildings, including Windsor Castle, Kensington Palace and the Victoria & Albert Museum. Mr Lowe holds the majority stake in its parent company, Lowe Holdings.

The firm first received a royal warrant from Elizabeth II in 1995. Three decades later, the King renewed the appointment in 2025, with the company attributing this to the "exceptional service and craftsmanship" it had delivered to the royal household.

A Restore spokesman dismissed the scrutiny of the warrant as part of a "disgraceful Daily Telegraph onslaught against Rupert Lowe," adding that the company had recently marked a century in the electrical and mechanical contracting industry.

The spokesman said the "remarkable achievement which demonstrates the quality of the company" should be supported by the newspaper, which, he says, "is now embarrassing itself."
