Rory McIlroy is preparing to end his break with wife Erica Stoll and return to competitive golf as he targets a record-extending fourth FedExCup title.
The 37-year-old has not played since The Open at Royal Birkdale last month, instead enjoying time away from the course with Stoll and their five-year-old daughter Poppy.
But McIlroy's spell away is almost over after he committed to playing the FedEx St. Jude Championship at TPC Southwind in Memphis, where the PGA Tour Playoffs begin on August 13.
And there will be plenty at stake when the Northern Irishman finally picks up his clubs again.
McIlroy is already the most successful player in FedExCup history after winning the season-long competition three times, triumphing in 2016, 2019 and 2022.
Tiger Woods is the only other golfer to have lifted the trophy more than once, having won the inaugural competition in 2007 before triumphing again two years later.
McIlroy therefore has an opportunity to extend his record by becoming the first four-time champion.
His participation in Memphis had initially appeared uncertain after the six-time Major winner questioned following The Open why he needed to compete in both of the opening two Playoff tournaments.
He has now committed to the first event and will return sitting 12th in the FedExCup standings, leaving him well positioned to reach the TOUR Championship.
McIlroy has deliberately adopted a more selective schedule this year, with Memphis representing only his 12th start of the season.
His latest break has given him another opportunity to spend time away from golf with his family before attention turns towards a potentially historic conclusion to his PGA Tour campaign.
This year's Playoffs will also represent the final edition under the existing format.

The top 70 players qualify for the FedEx St. Jude Championship before that number is reduced to 50 for the BMW Championship at Bellerive Country Club in St Louis.
Only 30 will then advance to the TOUR Championship at East Lake, where a $10million prize awaits the eventual FedExCup champion.
PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp has already revealed plans to overhaul the season finale, with a revamped TOUR Championship expected to incorporate match play and potentially rotate between some of America's leading courses.
Further details are expected before this month's finale.
For now, however, McIlroy has history firmly within his sights.
He has three top-five finishes from eight previous appearances at TPC Southwind, although the Memphis tournament remains the only current Playoff event he has never won.
His most recent appearance there came in 2024, when he finished 68th.
World No.1 Scottie Scheffler will be among McIlroy's biggest obstacles, while defending FedExCup champion Tommy Fleetwood is attempting to retain his crown.
Shane Lowry also faces a crucial week.
The Irishman sits 60th in the standings and must climb into the top 50 in Memphis to qualify for the BMW Championship, a move which would also secure his eligibility for next season's lucrative Signature Events.
But much of the attention will inevitably fall on McIlroy as he swaps family time with Stoll and Poppy for another pursuit of PGA Tour history.
