Lewandowski, 37, delivered an emotional speech during a training session this week with his teammates and backroom staff, highlighting that it has been a pleasure for him to be a part of the club and this Barca squad. He confirmed the news in a social media post on Saturday. The Poland striker’s next destination is unclear at this stage, but he is set to play his final home game for Barca against Real Betis on Sunday. Lewandowski is in the final year of his contract with Barcelona and The Athletic reported in September that the expectation was for him to leave the club next summer. “After four years full of challenges and hard work, it’s time to move on,” he said in a post on Instagram. “I leave with the feeling that the mission is complete. Four seasons, three championships. “I will never forget the love I received from the fans from my very first days. Catalonia is my place on earth. Thank you to everyone I met along the way during these beautiful four years. A special thank you to President Laporta for giving me the chance to live the most incredible chapter of my career. Barca is back where it belongs.” Signing a new striker is a priority for Barca’s board in the summer of 2026, with Ferran Torres often preferred to Lewandowski as the central striker in Hansi Flick’s side this term. Lewandowski has started just 15 of his side’s La Liga games this season as his side defended the league title, and has scored 18 goals across 44 appearances in all competitions. Barcelona signed Lewandowski for a fee rising to €50million in July 2022 from Bayern Munich. He has made 191 appearances for the club, scoring 119 goals. He helped Barcelona to win La Liga in his debut season, scoring 33 goals across all competitions and he played a crucial role in his side’s domestic treble in 2024-25, with 42 goals. Lewandowski’s previously spent four years at Borussia Dortmund, helping the club to two German titles, before in 2014 joining Bayern, where he won the Bundesliga in each of his eight seasons at the club. “I still don’t know what I will do,” he told Polish broadcaster Eleven Sports last week. “There are 51 days remaining on my contract, so I still have a bit of time. There is the option of going to a league of a lower level. I am almost 38 (he will turn that age in August) but I feel fine physically and I am considering it. This might be the time to play and enjoy life. I’ll listen to some offers and then make a decision.” Spot the pattern. Connect the terms Find the hidden link between sports terms
