Civil servants have been accused of "robbing us blind" after a whistleblower exposed workers "abusing flexitime" to claim up to 50 days holiday a year.

Speaking to GB News, broadcaster Carole Malone launched a scathing attack on the "disgusting" tactics of the exposed workers.

Some civil servants have been found to have hacked the system by keeping their laptops open past their working hours whilst being at home, as well as clocking in their commuting time.

They have also been found to be faking office attendance for years at a time, flouting rules that require them to be working on-site for at least three days a week.

According to The Telegraph, civil servants can claim up to 50 days of annual leave in a year as a result of the system.

Expressing her outrage on the People's Channel, Ms Malone said: "So these people who are being paid by the British taxpayer are actually robbing us blind, and it's just disgusting.

"We keep on being told 'if they can do their work at home, it's absolutely fine'.

"Well, they're not doing their work at home, they're scamming us and robbing the system. They're cheating the system."

Weighing in on the revelation, Senior Political Commentator Nigel Nelson argued if workers are abusing the system, they "should, of course, be disciplined".

He said: "If you're logging in in a car park to pretend you're at work and you're meant to be at work, surely that's a disciplinary matter.

"But if the argument is they shouldn't work from home, it depends on the job they do. If you're processing driving licence applications, you can do it from a laptop at home."

Ms Malone interjected Nigel, arguing: "This proves without doubt that they can't be trusted to work from home.

"This shows that they want to scam the system at every opportunity they can. They can't be trusted, and the truth of it is most people would not probably do eight hours a day at home."

Weighing in on the debate, GB News host Andrew Pierce questioned why it as "taken a newspaper" to expose the actions of civil servants.

He said: "Why don't the civil service know what the civil servants are doing right under their noses?

"Also I imagine a lot of these jobs are in London and a lot of these civil servants are working home, claiming that London wage at huge cost to the taxpayer. That should be withheld, because that is really ripping off the taxpayer."

An HM Land Registry spokesman said the vast majority of staff did not claim time off in lieu for additional hours worked and any abuse of flexible working arrangements was taken extremely seriously and would be acted upon.

A spokesman for the Pensions Regulator (TPR) added: "TPR is committed to maintaining a high-performing, accountable and flexible workforce that delivers effectively for pension scheme members.

"Staff at TPR work standard contractual hours and must adhere to our office attendance policy.

"Any individual who does not meet expected standards is managed by their line manager and, where necessary, faces robust formal action."
