Brave pedestrians tried to drag a man from his car to stop him fleeing the scene after he allegedly mowed down a child on an e-bike in a horror road rage incident. The 15-year-old boy was allegedly hit by a white Volkswagen in what has been described as a sickening ordeal, with the driver allegedly engaging in an altercation with the boy and his friends, who were also on bikes, shortly before the alleged incident occurred. One witness told local news reporters that the car was "on top of the e-bike" and alleged the car had run the boy's legs over in the disturbing outburst in Sydney, Australia . Police were alerted to the crash - part of which was caught on camera - in the affluent northern Sydney suburb of North Curl Curl on Monday (April 27). According to New South Wales Police, officers were told the driver had allegedly made a rude hand gesture towards of a group of teens before shooting off in his car. "The group of teenagers – all riding e-bikes – followed the car before one of the teens – a 15-year-old boy – engaged in a verbal argument with the driver," a NSW Police media spokesperson said in a statement. "During the argument, the alleged driver threw a water bottle at the teen before driving away. The 15-year-old then threw the same water bottle back at the car; however, it did not make impact. NSW Police added: "The 15-year-old continued to follow the car before blocking it at the intersection, before the driver allegedly hit the teen causing the boy to be thrown from the e-bike." The alleged driver than fled the scene. He wasn't on the run for long, however, and was arrested an hour later in the nearby town of Dee Why. The boy sustained serious leg injuries, prompting a NSW Ambulance rescue service to be dispatched, however paramedics were able to stabilise the child, and he was taken to Randwick Children's Hospital without being airlifted. A local woman, identified only as 'Laura' by local paper the Many Observer, said: “We were just driving down around the corner onto Abbott road and saw a car fully up on the curb. We stopped because we were like, someone has been hit. “The passenger door of the car, kind of opened and then slammed shut, and the driver of that car swerved out, nearly hit us, and then swerved off.” She echoed the police line about a bottle being thrown, telling the community press: “They said that the guy from the car had thrown a bottle out of the car at the kids on the e-bikes. Then they threw it back at the car and then that is when he just accelerated up off the road, like completely off the road, and hit the kid.” She said the boy's legs were badly damaged and bleeding, and the bike was badly damaged, before adding that the horror incident could have been far, far worse. “E-bikes are sometimes annoying, but you would not run someone over. That could have gone so much worse," she said. “I do not know what is going on with the world.” The alleged driver has since been charged with driving furiously in a motor vehicle and causing bodily harm, negligent driving, and driving while his license application was refused. He was granted bail, and will appear in Manly Local Court on May 20.
