Road Accident Kills 3 People Near Marrakech
Casablanca – A tragic road accident on the national road linking Marrakech to Chichaoua killed three people, while seven others were seriously injured on Sunday. The crash happened on the stretch between the commune of Mazoudia and Chichaoua.
According to converging reports, it involved two large taxis traveling in opposite directions. One was coming from Chichaoua heading toward Marrakech, while the other was on its way to Agadir.
The impact of the collision killed three passengers instantly at the scene. Seven others were left with varying degrees of injuries. Emergency services rushed them to the regional hospital, where they received initial treatment. The victims’ bodies were transferred to the morgue shortly after.
Local sources say excessive speed may have played a role in the crash, though this has not yet been officially confirmed.
Royal Gendarmerie units quickly arrived at the scene and opened an investigation. The inquiry is being conducted under the supervision of the public prosecutor to determine exactly what happened and who may be responsible.
Deadly accidents involving shared taxis are not uncommon on this road, where traffic can be heavy and driving conditions unpredictable.
Recent figures from the Directorate General of National Security (DGSN) show how frequent these incidents are. Between March 9 and 15 alone, 24 people were killed, and 2,748 were injured in 2,025 traffic accidents in urban areas, including 85 in serious condition.
Authorities say most crashes are linked to driver behavior, such as speeding, inattention, failure to yield, and risky maneuvers, which continue to top the list.
