Revealed! The remarkable haul of goods bought by Peter Murrell with the money he embezzled from the SNP

Scores of images published by the Crown Office show the range of items accumulated by the former SNP chief executive, who admitted raiding more than £400,000 of SNP funds over 12 years. They include the notorious £124,000 motorhome measuring 24ft parked in the driveway of the home of Murrell’s parents in Dunfermline, Fife. It is clearly visible next to the smart bungalow - despite Nicola Sturgeon’s claim in a BBC interview that she has no ‘conscious memory’ of having seen it. Scottish Tory leader Russell Findlay said: ‘Nicola Sturgeon initially denied seeing her husband’s gigantic stolen campervan, before saying that she had no “conscious memory” of noticing it in her in-law’s driveway. ‘These bombshell police photos starkly illustrate that it was impossible to miss and surely destroy any last shred of credibility in her story which is, frankly, unbelievable. ‘These extraordinary photos are a further reason why a full parliamentary inquiry is necessary. Your browser does not support iframes. ‘John Swinney should do the right thing, instead of meekly protecting Sturgeon while treating the people of Scotland as mugs.’ Among the haul of other embezzled items is a Montblanc white gold fountain pen costing £4,225, a Montblanc yellow gold fountain pen (£2,137), a Montblanc rollerball pen (£515), and Montblanc flight bags (£400). There are also numerous Montblanc items including pen pouches in a luxury collector’s box emblazoned with the company’s name. The Mail revealed in May that Ms Sturgeon used designer pens in Holyrood’s debating chamber - and said they were from an ‘unnamed relative’. Murrell admitted spending nearly £24,000 of stolen cash at Montblanc, which sells items such as pens and watches. In 2022, the then First Minister was pictured with the expensive pens at the Scottish parliament, prompting questions from Tory leader Russell Findlay. It came at a time when the SNP was criticised for breaking a pledge on ‘free’ laptops for all schoolchildren. There are also two Jura watches from CW Sellors, costing a total of £9,350. Items were seized in April 2023 from the home Murrell shared on the outskirts of Glasgow with his now-estranged wife, Ms Sturgeon, and from the SNP’s headquarters in Edinburgh. It is understood that when police raided the SNP offices, the then chief executive Murray Foote handed over about 20 items which it was feared may have been illegally obtained. Other images provided by the Crown include a Jura coffee machine from Arredatutto, costing £3,231.90. Elsewhere there is a boxwork-style, top-handle Smythson bag crafted from signature cross-grain calf leather, costing £466.20. A £499.99 Dyson SV12 vacuum was seized from the marital home together with a Dyson SV14 V11 Absolute vacuum, costing £599. Ms Sturgeon was pictured with her prized book collection in her home library – which was bought for £1,946 of embezzled cash. In the garden of their home, police found a Netatmo Wireless Anemometer with wind speed and direction sensor bought for £77 from Amazon, a £59 rain gauge from the same company, and a mount. Lower-cost items include a Gillette Fusion5 ProShield Chill Razor Blades for Men, ‘pack of eight refill blades’, costing £24.65, and Le Creuset Mickey Mouse Ramekins (£39). The Crown Office said: ‘In this case, Police Scotland and COPFS [Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service] worked together on [warrant] applications relating to the accused’s home address, the driveway of his mother’s home address and SNP HQ. ‘The requests were submitted by Police Scotland to COPFS on 20 March 2023 ahead of a police day of action planned for April 5, 2023. ‘Crown Counsel instructed that applications should be made, and a sheriff granted the warrants on April 3, 2023 for execution on April 5, 2023.’ No comments have so far been submitted.
